What do you guys consider more important from a static IP solution, the actual static IP addresses or the uncapped bandwidth.

We've developed a static solution and I want to price it accordingly.

Basically it will be fibre with 1 - 5 static IP's at 512 - 4Mb

I'm thinking a local and international solution both uncapped.

What would be more important, the speed, the IP add's, the uncapped, or the non use of thresholds???

Help!!!!

static ip, local only is something I really need.
only do 20-30GB local per month, but not having a static IP makes VPNs difficult.

I'd say a rate per GB of local, and a different rate per GB on international.
Then I'd need to be able to disallow international traffic at any time.
And I'd similarily need to be able to disallow local if it gets out of hand and starts breaking the budget.
The ability to set any threshold limits that I can afford on both would be a major plus.

i.e. This kind of service is used for hosting, don't try to fit the client into a 1GB/2GB/whatever shoebox, give the client the service and a means to control and analyze the service.

Now there's something I think we could do - thanks Stoke

That we can, and have been doing for 6 years for R720 pm per point locally and with no restriction (i.e. 5 IP's).

PM me if you want more info.

static IP's are quite important. Cap is something one can manage, however lack of a static IP makes life very difficult for VPN and other affairs.

As before - static IP's aren't needed for a local vpn or RAS or Mail or Web server, but quite a few apps out there need a static.

Is it usable for home use too?
Then a UNCAPPED bandwidth is the most important. ;)

Why is not suitable for gaming or P2P?

We only need 1 thing.

Uncapped, at a reasonable speed like 2 MB/s which is not too expensive.

i'd be happy with uncapped even if i was throtled down to 64kilobit/s.
actually, whats the theorectical of that in byte per month? 64000*60*60*24*30 / 7
right?

Moederloos -I've just checked out IS'es static addresses (and have it on good authority that they are the only (other than us shortly) provider of statics) and you can't use their addresses for a vpn.. the router supplied by them uses one add, and is locked down??

Have I missed something or are you paying R7500 pm for a 512k vpn with three points? (3 x 512 fibre @ 2500 each)?????

A good thread for me to find at the perfect time. I am looking around for a service that gives me a static address down an adsl line.

My needs are a little unusual - I run automated software (my own) out of my own house that fetches and processes data continuously. Up until now I have worked quite happily with an uncapped service but at a sluggish data rate (384k - my software never complains) and no p2p (no need). It costs me about R900 per month, which was the best offer I could find at the time I set it up (Imagine IPS: http://uncapped.imagine.co.za/dyndns/ ).

The latest twist though is that I need to supply a static IP to a company in the UK to access some feeds I need. I'm feeling slightly un-professional that I don't have one ready to go - they don't understand the bandwidth issues we have in this country and how it affects small businesses.

Anyway the packages I am researching all seem to have hosting in mind with 5 static IP addresses. I actually only really need one. Imagine IPS are going to significantly increase my monthly cost to give me the static IP/uncapped rather than the dynamic/uncapped. (ie about R1500 pm: http://uncapped.imagine.co.za/static_ip/). Does anyone know of better alternatives out there (I'd even consider capped/static options, but my bandwidth usage is quite high - roughly 30-40Gig pm).

I kinda feel there isn't a product out there for what I am trying to do - uncapped or high data usage, single static IP, no need for high speed (384k or 512k), no need for p2p or gaming.

Thanks for any comments from the experts!
