They called now from Canal Walk, they have a 3G dongle for me to collect. Lost track of the other thread so I'm posting this here 
Posting this from my newly connected Simple installation at home, completed as of a few minutes ago
The installation was painless, about half an hour. About a 3 to 4 week wait from the time I walked into the Telkom Direct store to order the package.
Any installation costs involved? I've yet to get adsl (decided to go with Bitco, what a pain in the ass that has proved to be).... Friend of mine got 4mb uncapped installed just last week, and had to play like R700 installation fees

I paid no installation or activation charges. I am a new Telkom customer. Last had a line in my name several years ago.
The simple deal has been retracted or altered now so you will have to enquire at a Telkom Direct (or Mobile?) store to find out for sure.

May I ask how much is your bill for the month of May? I received a R601 Rand bill after discount for the simple plus package for May and it was R526 for April. For April it's like two days + one month. And I didn't take any call plans, it's pure simple plus (4mb with 20gb softcap) package and there's no suspicious items are in the April or May's invoices.

Telkom simple capped plus (4mb with 20gb softcap), should be R499 per month. Even with the increase for the voice line from 1 May it should not arrive to R601 Rand.
The balancing amount of R526 in April was for two days + April, as I migrated to this package at the end of March.

You seem to be missing the Simple Plus discount under discounts.
The lady at Telkom Direct store told me last night to be very specific when upgrading from Simple to Simple Plus else i would lose out on the bundled discount.

I downgraded from 'simple uncapped plus' to 'simple capped plus' at the end of March. It's done in a Telkom store and the consultant said nothing.
What do you mean by 'have to be very specific' when migrating btw simple packages? How much do Telkom charge you for May and what's your package?

Essentially she said I must tell them (in my case) that I am changing from Simple to Simple Plus. Please upgrade the line speed from 2mbps to 4mbps AND also increase the data to 20GB softcap (in line with Simple Plus). Else I would lose the discount and not be able to get it back!
Below is my one and only bill received (for April & May) as my line was activated on 28 April. It's a mess due to the pro-rata items but I've worked it out that I'll be paying about R425 per month for Simple (10gb + 2mbps line). Notice the discounted line items.

The catch is simple: the service sucks.
Had all combinations of that Simple deal, and it's fine if you just want to use regular Internuts ... but as soon as you even look at a streaming video, you'd better look elsewhere.

wow, right now, I'm a very unhappy Telkom customer.
Firstly, thank you very, very much Strontium Dog, thank you for all your time and trouble to type out your bill and explain to me in a detailed manner.
Secondly, I'm **** by Hellkom. I will go to the Telkom store before the end of this week, however, I believe I might not get the 'REAL' Simple package since at the end of April Telkom has asked all new customers to sign a 24 month contract for taking such packages. And for the record, I just realised both my April and May's bill was overcharged by over one hundred rand.
If only that very consultant at the Telkom store Rosebank branch on 30th March 2015 would mention that I need to repeat to her not just the name and price of the intended migrating simple package but in addition every major component of it.
Utterly despicable business practice by Hellcom.

Yes.But from the end of April new customer wish to take out such package need to sign a 24 month contract.
I steam supersport through dstv now with no problems at 720p quality although I have the 20gb softcap and not uncapped.

Well it worked out for me as I signed up before the 24 month lock in. Got free installation, free ADSL router, free 3G dongle with 200mb monthly data. The data midnight to 7am is unlimited. As a backup I have a free FNB account
I was contemplating upgrading to Simple Plus but xln's story has me a bit worried...
I'll wait till they increase the line speeds to 4mbps as a minimum. A friend mentioned this may be in the pipeline.
