ok so Wednesday last week all is fine.

Thursday morning my wife calls on the land line to ask why my cell is off. imagine my surprise when i get irate mails from my clients to say that i need to switch my cell on. so i check my cell and all is fine, call mtn and am told that theres a problem on the network and they hope to have it resolved by Friday afternoon.

so i send off an apology mail to my clients. and hope that by friday all is well with the world again.

monday morning now, still no incoming calls or sms's but outgoing is fine. just called mtn again and it seems that they haven't been able to resolve it and their techies don't know when it will be resolved.

now my question is, do i stay with mtn (like 3 months left on contract) or do i tell em to shove it and bugger off to vc? my cell is my primary business line as im self employed and end up at clients offices most of the time.

so i have basically not had a business line for like 4 days and they think this is ok. im getting angrier and angrier. and soon im gonna call em and say some things that i probably shouldn't say.

anyone else got the same issue? cos when i spoke to em last week they said that it was roughly 75% of their network that was affected.

I have always found Vodacom to have the best reception when it comes to the Cell providers.

Cell C by far is the worst.

My advice, move over to Vodacom (but that's just me being biased) but go and get a Vodacom contract (cause you need it as you are a business) and then start diverting your calls etc.

Remember, alot of EX clients or clients who don't call you alot need the 3 months to maybe contact you or find out about how your number has changed etc.

Im in Durban. 2 of my mates have the exact same phone and are also on mtn and they fine. im getting more and more angry. If im even 1 day late in paying my bill or if i hit my cap on my data bundle then i get snoty mails and calls from mtn. yet they are messing with my business and i aint had jack from them. i swear i aint paying for the period i am disconnected. this is absolute cr*p.

need to try find a way to get out of here sooner. was planning on bailing by end of year, but if im now in a position where i cant even receive calls on a service i pay for, yet i still have to pay, then i think the telco sector is gonna fall on its a$$ soon as well

I heard there's like 5000 mtn "numbers" that have a problem like this? Someone at work also got the same thing. Not reception, something with the actual sim-number.

yeah i can make calls and send sms's just not receive. according to MTN its way more than 5000 of them. well the helpdesk guy last week said so anyway

My MTN phone works fine.

From someone with both an MTN and Vodacom phone let me tell you the grass isn't greener on the other side. While once or twice MTN has gone offline, and I've been unable to recieve calls...my vodacom "phone" hangs every so often, and suddenly out of the blue no calls or sms's come in. You only notice it when the phone has been oddly quite for a while. It's not the acutal phone, cause the problem has happened in a few phones!

well the good news is it started working again last night. the bad news is ive lost a customer as a result. so needless to say i couldnt care if the grass is purple on the other side, im fuming and nobody at mtn even has the decency to explain to me what happened or if they intend reimbursing me for the inconvenience. im sorry but to me this just shows that

1) all our fixed line operators are full of **** and their networks are falling apart
2) all our cellular operators are full of **** and their networks are falling apart
3) all our wireless operators are full of **** and their networks are falling apart

so add that to the crime, corruption and filth and general sense of decay in this country and i think we gonna end up showing zim how its done, never mind following their lead

What number is experiencing this problem, is it the 073xxxxxx or the 083xxxxxx because I have no problem with incoming calls on the 083xxxxxx number, or is it only in Durban area?
