I drink a lot. I'm not sure what their excuse is.
 
Traffic violations are not well-policed in South Africa, from ignoring road signs to simply crossing the street, there is a fine associated with every rule we have. The more common traffic violations we see daily, that go unpunished:

Disregard a stop sign.
Disregard a traffic light.
Disregard u-turn.
Use of cellphone & texting while driving.
Double parking.
Causing obstruction, stopping in the middle of the road.
Disregarding a yellow/red line.
Following too closely.
Only one/ No number plate.
Overtaking on a solid line.
Unauthorised racing on a public road.
Passing a vehicle in a unsafe place.
Ignoring pedestrian priority signs and not yielding.
Failing to yield at a circle.
Ignoring ‘keep left/right’ and other directive signs.
Failing to vacate right lane of freeway upon signal of other vehicle wanting to pass.
Failing to indicate.
More than one motor cycle overtaking a vehicle at the same time.
Doing a ‘wheelie’ on a motorcycle.
Making excessive noise due to methods of handling a vehicle (revving, etc)
Hooting unnecessarily in residential areas.
Causing wheel of vehicle to drag/spin on surface of roadway.
Pedestrians not crossing the road when it’s safe.
Pedestrians loitering on crossing.
Pedestrians who do not walk in the road facing oncoming traffic when there are no sidewalks
Road rage.
Overloaded vehicles.
Many drivers drive incorrectly and make illegal turns using traffic circles.
Speeding in a freeway limit of 80/km and 100/km zone, many thinking it is a 120/km zone.
Disregard to dim your high beam headlights at a certain distance from blinding other drivers.
Failing to switch off fog lights when there is no fog.
Worn out tyres.

It’s easy to edge a little too close when you’re fending off other drivers who like to cut in front because they’re in a hurry. But, keeping a good following distance can help reduce the chances of having an accident, giving you enough space to react should the car in front of you suddenly brake or escape from a attempted armed robbery hi-jacking.

Misusing or not using your indicators at all can put you at serious risk. It’s more than just a courtesy to use your indicators, it’s a way to prevent misunderstandings and accidents.

Worse still, people who have warning buzzers and bypass it so they don't have to wear it. It's like Driving straight at a cliff and willingly decide not to apply brakes... It's moronic :D
 
I'd like to add, why is it that the drivers on William Nichol think it's okay that they block intersections? I was coming out Sloane last week and couldn't actually turn right because the intersection was blocked and it's not like it's a once off thing it's consistent.
Than by the offramp heading towards Roodepoort side they block the intersection again so no one can go straight? WTF!!! I'm all for this demerit system if they could actually have police on the road policing this, because that would be about 400 people already fined and demerited.

It's the maximum speed you should go. It's not the minimum. If it was blue and white that would be the minimum you could go, but if it's read,white and black it's the maximum.

I know that it's just very annoying sitting behind someone on a road with a speed limit of 100 and they are creeping along at 40 looking at the trees

Unfortunately it's their right to do so, more so than the guy doing 102 in the same area.

100%, but I honestly think all N Roads and M roads need to have both posted.

Too often I'll be on the N3 or N2 in Durbs and be stuck behind some fscktard who is doing 80km/h religiously in the middle lane, and its actually a shyte ton MORE dangerous than the people doing 130 - 140...

Oh god yeah the N2/N3 in Natal it's either you've got some guy who thinks the right lane is for 200km/h and than there is another guy who is cruising along at 80 in the middle so if you've moved over to pass right you've got to have the impatient ahole behind you flashing you while you're trying to overtake the guy on the left.

In normal busy traffic, I've actually found it more than the impatient ahole flashing you..

I've seen guys get stuck behind the twat doing 80 (at the best of times), pull out into a gap on the right to overtake but the speed differential is so big that the gap just isn't really big enough and almost causes a huge accident.

The taxi ranks at that intersection have a lot to do with it.

This, man it drove me nuts and the constant accidents on those two roads, I'm surprised anyone comes out of Natal alive.

Not one was a taxi, it was just purely inconsiderate A-Holes who blocked the intersection, not realising that another bunch of A-holes were doing it further up causing the exact reason we had traffic. If everyone actually stopped at the line when traffic has reached the start of the other side traffic would flow better. I also almost gotten taken out by a truck going through an already red robot which actually was red long enough for him to sufficiently stop in time as well.

We've learnt to drive like twats, thats how :p

In all honesty, I've had to develop such a defensive driving style because of the asshats on our roads down here. And sometimes that means being stuck behind that 80km/h twit for the duration of the freeway trip.
