What's wrong with S.A rice?

Yes, I am from rice eating family, bro. Regular basmati rice that is packaged is not parboiled unless the package says it is parboiled. Google it.

Now go back to the first post in this thread and pay attention.

Most of the non-instant stuff on the shelf is parboiled.

And I asked because most people would think it means half cooked.

Never had an issue. It’s generally more nutritional and also less starchy/sticky although you can control that somewhat yourself with washing.

Thank you everyone for your hospitality.

For today I gonna start with recommendation from @SauRoNZA.

I gonna take this, bit expensive though R89.99 for 2kg. Oh my god! Let's see.

If it doesn't work out, @UB40 rec. will be next.

Just return it now and avoid the disappointment. It's cheap for a reason.

It's like eating grains of glue.

You have to rince the rice? It doesn't say so on the packaging?!

Do you only ever do what you are told?

Rice gets pretty dusty especially in a bulk bag like that, but even in the small packets. Ideally you want to rinse it at least once.

Then you repeat until you get it to a starch level you prefer.

I mean you won’t die if you don’t rinse it but you might not get a pure clean taste from it. And if it’s really cheap big bulk stuff you might even have foreign matter in there.

You also want to get rid of any “dead” rice that floats.

Yes, it is an agricultural product. You don't know how long it has been standing in dusty warehouses.

I mean those small bags of tasting with the hard plastic likely has had a good wash and being local probably isn’t too bad.

But the biggest bags in the more floppy plastic I would definitely wash.

I mean do it once and see what floats and then you can decide from there.

I generally put it in the pot and do about three rinses and then do the chopstick or thumb trick, add salt and put the stove on.

Judging by how brown the water is after a rinse I would think the wash is worth it. Friends don't let other friends eat Tastic rice though. That is like offering a bro riccofy. If the rice is not sorted in may even have little stones in it.
