WhatsApp activation

Hi, my daughter is overseas and got a new phone, but she only talk to us via WhatsApp and she got a telkom number. How can she activate it without a SMS, she got a Samsung, a 6 or 7, Android

She will need to get a local sim with a local number for activation or she will have to contact Telkom and setup sms roaming on her current number
 
Why doesn't she get an overseas sim card?
 
Telegram would have been a better option because it can be installed on many devices simultaneously. She just needs to get the activation code the primary sms'ed to the device used to set it up. You could set it up for her using a prepaid sim here. Get her to install it there then send her the sms once you get it.
 
where is the Telkom sim?
you only need the activation code that is sms'ed, it doesn't have to be in the device Whatsapp is been activated on

^^This. Also, once activated one can change the sim card as much as you want. The activation is a once off per device.
 
or who's name / ID is the Telkom SIM RICA'ed in. If someone other than her in ZA, do a SIM swap and put in a device to receive the activation SMS.
 
Yes, that is the plan, it is on my name. I am out of town, and telkom need a ID and proof adres not via email
