Anyone have clarity to add on a few questions with Whatsapp backups on iOS?

Are the Whatsapp chats stored on two different locations on iCloud?

1.) iCloud Backup. This includes Whatsapp chat history in the overall device backup file.

2.) iCloud Drive. If you enable 'Chat Backup' in the Whatsapp app, it is stored on iCloud Drive.

Is it necessary to have both activated, which doubles the amount of iCloud storage space used?

If you do a local backup to a computer via iTunes, is Whatsapp chat history also included in the backup?

This post states it is only included in the iTunes backup when not included as part of the device backup to iCloud.

How long does the iOS Whatsapp app normally take to backup data?

Have a client with a 24GB Whatsapp file, but after 4 hours it wasn't even 50% done when using a 200Mb/s fibre line.

iTunes backup would be the best way to go if speed is of the essence.

Never even knew you could export it to iCloud Drive, sounds like a broken internal function ignoring the OS level one.

It is not so much that something is broken as it is that the first backup of Whatsapp is included in the total device iCloud backup file, and the second is Whatsapp's own backup function that stores the backups on iCloud Drive, just like it stores it on Google Drive in the Android version.

The problem with including Whatsapp in the total device iCloud backup file is that you can only get it back by doing a full device restore, you cannot select that only Whatsapp needs to be restored.

The problem will just get much worse.
Yes, that is why I am wondering what people do with 1TB phones.

Both Whatsapp and iCloud backups takes ages to complete - we are talking days or weeks if you have a significant amount of data on the phone.

Tried Whatsapp backup on late model Android phone today, and same thing.

Upload is in Kb/s, I kid you not. o_O

Whatsapp backup is a joke, did a 3.7GB whatsapp chat backup for my mom this week, bloody thing took ~12 hours.

Interesting.

Whatsapp just plain refuses to backup via USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet adapter when it is plugged into the phone.

All the other apps works fine with the cable plugged in.
