WhatsApp calling growth flat

Every time I use whatsapp voice calling, it sounds like im talking to somebody on the other side of the globe, or the moon, the delay is so bad.

Where do these calls get routed?

Its a pretty bad service tbh..

Actually, being on the other side of the world make calls substantially better. Spent a week in New York last month, and the quality of calls to back home was spectacular... I'd even say better than normal calls. Until calls are relayed locally, there'll always be massive delay

Watch it grow when iOS 10 gets released. Its such a mission to pick up a whatsapp call on iOS. Once they integrate into the new Voip API, there should be a bigger uptake by iPhone users.

How many are these users?

I use the voice call function almost daily and can't complain much

Use it often. From time to time there will be a huge delay. Mostly seems good to me. Will probably keep on using it. Doesn't destroy my battery either.

I made a decent call last week on Edge (as in not 3G). Slight delay, but not too bad.
You have to tick the "use less data" option.

Read my post again. I am not blowing Vodacom's trumped, nor did I say I have never had a bad call on Whatsapp. I just have not had consistent bad calls.

But its what I would have said if I worked for Vodacom in this situation. Can't be saying it's the best thing since sliced bread if everyone is saying otherwise so say something neutral which is indirectly praise for Vodacom.

Just because they can't see what's in it doesn't mean they can't see it.
If you use a VPN one can still see that it's VPN traffic, one is just not sure what is being transferred within the VPN.

But how does Vodacom know it is Whatsapp calls, and not Skype/Viper calls or work VPN or encrypted torrents?
