WhatsApp desktop app launched for Windows and Mac

Also seems to take PDFs, Office Docs, etc… not txt files though which seems strange.
 
You actually get a Chrome extension, its almost identical to this, have had it for months.

This issue remains if your phone has no data signal (Thanks as always CellC), No messages goes through to the PC client. I don't know why they cant turn Whatsapp into something like skype where the app works regardless of my phone.

I have this issue as well. I either have to unlock my phone to wake it up, OR I can leave it plugged into the power - then it works fine. It appears to be aggressive power saving, and not a whatsapp problem.

Still strange though since the web app complains about the phone's connection yet messages still come through on my phone while it's locked.
 
still playing catchup and doing it badly.

at least telegram desktop does not need the phone to be connected. the whatsapp web version still uses your phone.

Maybe the actual messages are delivered through a push notification? However the web/desktop app would require a full data connection to your phone to retrieve the messages

With end to end encryption data is synchronised with phone. Whatsapp must be running in the background (and in the lock screen). I think there is settings for this.

It means a higher battery usage and also double data bill on the phone (to receive messages and to forward it to the desktop client).
 
Been running Desktop app for whatsapp for a while now - and did not have those frequent webapp disconnects - will try the official whatsapp app though -

Agreed. One less app = somewhat diminished risk of productivity loss.

So for those who use it, prepare for immeasurably longer IM's particularly where your contacts are keyboard warriors.
