I see quite a few threads around so thought i might as well make one dedicated thread to helping fellow MYBB guys.
Have to note I'm a bit of a fanboy so my defence of the app is quite evident
Common Queries:
[-] Its expensive -no - first of all its about 2USD (which is nothing) a year - not to mention its free for 1 year, though i noticed quite a few peeps its been extended and keeps on extending - on most platforms IOS you pay at download. [-] Its free now. Also forwarding that message by Jim Balsamic to all your contacts didn't make it free! it's just annoying Also he isn't the CEO
It uses allot of data - if using purely as an SMS replacement it cost's next to nothing even if you dont have a data bundle - if you start sending pictures, audio or video then it can add up as even images can be in excess of 3MB
Its drains the battery - well since the app runs all the time this may seem so (and on some platforms it does) however personal experience the battery isn’t affected much more then usual usage.
The app cannot be killed by task managers (especially on Symbian) - well this is a limitation on Symbian however I think this should be a given since it is meant to replace SMS it should be on all the time. - tip users dont kill the app it restarts itself and syncs contacts again so uses data every time you do this.
Google talk, skype, BBM, facebook, twitter etc. are better - well maybe but are any of those linked directly to your phone number and not a specific login per app?
and Finally the ticks:
One Grey tick - message successfully delivered to the server.
Two Grey ticks - message successfully delivered to the phone of your chat partner. Note: this does not indicate that message was read, just that it was delivered.
Two Blue Ticks - Message has been read
explanation directly off whatsapp FAQ page - http://www.whatsapp.com/faq/en/general/20951546
So I don't want arguments about 2 grey ticks being a read receipt!
I have a couple of things to add:
You can follow wa_status on Twitter to check on the status of their servers.
The maximum size limit on videos is 12MB.
WhatsApp syncs your all contacts (including those not on WhatsApp) every time you start it and every hour thereafter.
For 100 contacts this will be about 6MB a month.
Edit: To put that into perspective, 6MB is about 40000 SMS-sized chats. So if you're only using WhatsApp for chatting, the contacts synchronisation overhead can easily be way more than the data you use for chatting.
-Groups with a limit of about 256 people
-ability to backup to google drive
-Whatsapp Calling went live
-respond by quoting messages in groups - more forum like
-tag a specific person in groups
-finally the ability to send animated gifs is active
-The new Status*image or gif set only for 24 hours temporarily replaced the old status - thankfully they brought back the old one as well
Anything else you guys want to add
