Anyone else get a message from whatsapp about a service extension?
Mine says it now expires on the 29/04/1974... errr 1974? really?

I don't have a *bull***** berry so won't be able to say, never had to extend anything, but AFAIK, they did make it free over the holiday period, won't be surprised that it's free from now on going forward

I got one on the S3 earlier on. Don't remember the date. I think I paid 10 bucks odd for the app? So I thought it would be lifetime, but they haven't billed me anything.

mine going to expire in the next 2 weeks...received a few extensions....been using it for over 2 years.

Mine have been extended 2 times already, 6865 messages sent up to today… Many on XDA have announced never to have paid and extensions keep on coming. As I understand, iPhone users do not have to pay to use Whatsapp…

Many people I know have moved over to Viber…

I stopped using Skype on regular basis and switched to Gtalk since 2007…

Anyway my Whatsapp is supposed to end 04/03/2013, will see what happens.

Last year when I came up on 1 year they gave me a message saying my service had been extended.
Today I got a pop-up warning me that my free service will expire in 13 days.

It's only $1 for a year anyway, and I use it plenty so it's worth buying.

Go search on XDA, some people who bought the App is still receiving expiry messages. Everybody thought $10 meant to be lifetime. As I understand, the more data you use, the more extensions you will be offered…

I also do not mind to pay, since my Whatsapp is more like a beeper/pager for me than anything else. Emergency notifications… But I do not want to be bothered by “pay now” messages when I already have paid for the application.

The last update included in app purchases so when it expires then $1/year

Mine is suppose to te end on 31 Mar 2013. Will see what happens but I will gladly pay for it.

Never wanna go back to 80c sms's.

Just got a lifetime licence.

Thank you, WhatsApp!!!

Did you ever have an iPhone and buy WhatsApp for that? I did so, which gave me a lifetime licence, and now that I've moved to Android the lifetime licence seems to have followed my nuber (which is the same).

There were a series of WhatsApp hoax messages doing the rounds at some point last year, and that were so blatantly obvious that they were not real. However, the licencing of the app has always confused me, as an iPhone user, cos if one store offers it for free (lifetime) how does WhatsApp justify selling it over and over to other mobile platforms.

I have a sneaky suspicion this was a complete and utter boo boo on WhatsApp's side and hence the "extensions". Keeping you feeling "lucky" to have an "extension" but meanwhile they're just covering their tracks.

PS. 2 friends (one with BB 9300 & another with Nokia E7) has never had to "renew their licence" by re-purchasing the app... Doubt they ever will if some platforms still have once-off paying licences.

Saw some or other message scrolling at the top of my notification bar - on 2nd extension already and never paid for the app.

So still going strong :)

EDIT: Just checked my license now - valid till 09-02-2014
