WhatsApp voice calling is here (for Android)

I had an echo from my side, but nothing from the person I called.

Called from:

Telkom Mobile
Samsung S3 mini
Android 4.1.2

Called to:

MTN
Samsung (not sure of model)
Not sure of Android version, lower than 4.0 though

Lower the volume on the call slightly, worked for me with no echoes in sight

WhatsApp on Blackberry

Yesterday I noticed the green phone in the chat window. I clicked it and it was ringing on my side, but no ringing on the other side. After hanging up a missed WhatsApp notify displayed on the phone I was calling. I tried the other way around also calling my Blackberry from another and the same thing happened. Later I called again and after hanging up I received my first WhatsApp voice call. I am running v. 2.11.1201 and did not receive any WhatsApp updates in a while. Just wanted to find out if they are testing WhatsApp voice on Blackberry now or is it already active?

i tested it and it worked perfectly. has a little HD experience to it

Well I'm set to leave to overseas in a few days, lag or not this means no more international rates when calling SA...

This will be one of its primary uses IMO,its a relief to be able to not have to worry about high international call rates.

Anyone know how to set whatsapp to use your voice line when selecting the phone icon.

Mine automatically uses the built in voip which is highly frustrating.

I also dial out a lot from Whatsapp via normal GSM and this in app calling means I now have to copy and paste numbers which is a pain,I hope they enable this option again somehow.

How much data does it use ?

+- 0.6MB per second...

Tried it over Wi-Fi yesterday. Quality was quite good, with no lag.

I tried it to a few people, it rings on the other side but then the person answers it does not connect. I did download the latest app from the whatsapp website.

My knowledge of VoIP is rudimentary at best, so here's a noob question. Will the person receiving the call also be charged for data? My assumption is yes, but can you guys please confirm?

They will get charged as well.

They should include some kind of notification in Whatsap next to each contact to show whether they are available to take calls. Then each user should get the option in the settings to make themselves available to receive calls either: a. Always or b. only when connected on wifi or c. manual toggle whenever needed.

Does this come with a configurable mailbox of sorts? Or does it divert to your mailbox set up through your service provider? Just wondering if it's possible to leave a message (ala regular voice dialing).
