Up to now I have never used any kind of chat client on my cell phone, so sorry if these are basic question.

I have just downloaded Whatsapp for my Nokia E63. Has anyone else used this on a Nokia or other phone that does not have free internet? I have some concerns:

It leaves an internet connection open even when I exit the app, so there is obviously some kind of service running. If I disconnect, it immediately reconnects. Will this cause me to get a huge data bill at the end of the month, or is the data transfer pretty much what you type and receive on messages, in which case it will cost me basically nothing and much cheaper than SMSing (I can type and receive a LOT of text for R2/MB)?

Also, I cannot get this thing to connect using WiFi for love or money. It has some pretty basic network options, none of which seem to give me the option of connecting through WiFi when I am at home. Do I need to choose a different status to make it connect through WiFi

Thanks,
Russell.

Aweh I think the lack of options, settings etc. is because it's still in BETA stage for Nokia.

I don't find it uses much data at all - my total monthly usage (including a bit of browsing here and there and a couple youtube clips) is almost always < 30MB.

I'm using this as well on an iPhone.

It isn't connecting all of a sudden. Wonder whether this is normal? It's a great app.

Amazing app, using mine on android since day one. Still in its beta stage so it will have some issues. Hardly uses any data at all (Less than 1mb a months at light usage)

I've been using it on Android for a while, it's used about 15MB so far, but that's with about 300 messages in, 300 out, and a few of those have been picture messages. Well worth it!

Can this app be used to chat between itself and BBM? Or do you need to install this on a BlackBerry as well? If so what is the point to it? Google Chat works fine for me and it is also cross platform.

No you can't chat between whatsapp and BBM. This app looks up all your contacts in your phonebook and check if they also have whatsapp installed so you can chat with each other. Google chat is cool but I don't think all your contacts in your phonebook are registered for google chat. You have to install it on your BB. It's a great app.

there is a difference between leaving the connection active & actually downloading stuff. I know on my E72, the e-mail programme keeps the net conncetion active but does not dload anything. Check the data logs over a 15 minute period to see if anything is actually downloading
