August 2002, first person North of the Umgeni River to have ADSL also upgraded from 128k ISDN.
512k business package, and it was heaven.
Had 80 - 120 ping to UT99 servers in Germany, France and UK.
Today I have 4 mbits (10 available) but have 220 ping to these servers and browsing in comparison sucks.
80 - 120 ping to Europe ??
2005 - started with ADSL 384k which was a nightmare, cancelled the same year
2009 - moved to ADSL 2Mbps which was then upgraded to 4Mbps (could only get 3Mbps)
2014 - moved to new area, have 10Mb (syncing at 12.5) and am pretty happy with Afrihost as ISP.
Back then everything on the web was smaller so the ratios weren't that far off. I managed fine in the days of 128kbps ISDN cause everything was geared for it.Reflecting on it now, I don't know how we survived with 384Kbps, I would lose my mind with that bitrate now...
Mine used to work very well and gave the 1Meg 'upgrade' a run for its money.Reflecting on it now, I don't know how we survived with 384Kbps, I would lose my mind with that bitrate now...
