When Huawei smartphones will get Android 9

The latest version of Android has started rolling out to compatible devices.

The new operating system – Android 9 – is currently available on Google Pixel, Pixel 2, and Essential PH-1 devices, but will soon launch to more models.

Let's wait and see ....hopefully I get 9 on my P10 shortly after the P20 does.....

I'm wondering when my S9 will get the update. It will come from Samsung themselves because I have the international unlocked, carrier free device but I'm still not expecting it anytime soon. Maybe Samsung will surprise me...

If only all the major mob manufacturers where as diligent as Google and Nokia with their firmware updates...

You listening HUAWEI???? :thumbsup::thumbsdown::cool:

The most intersting thing about Andriod 9 is how Essential were able to release it on the same day as the Pixels.
If they can do it with limited budgets, why cant others?

Sounds like there will be some AI built in that will improve battery life because it will predict which apps you will use when... Any battery life improvements is welcome!

“First, the P20 series will be released in September, and the Mate series will be launched in the future,” said Huawei.

But how far in the future ?
I thought we were getting Android 8.1 first?

That's a fact. Maybe this Fuchsia thing that's touted to eventually replace Android will change things.

Nokia and Essential basically do nothing extra to the firmware though. It's just not possible for other manufacturers to be as quick as them whilst adding their modifications. Even OnePlus, who only make minor improvements and performance enhancements, need two months at least to develop and test their major firmware updates.

That said, Huawei is being incredibly quick to release Pie updates next month. That's really, really snappy.

That is almost certainly a very long way away. Android is in a good place anyway for new and upcoming devices. Pie is a very mature OS and Project Treble has made updates much easier for manufacturers.

I've never seen anything good come from modifying Android. Keep it stock.

Then you've never owned a OnePlus device. OxygenOS is snappier than AOSP used by Pixel phones, and launches apps faster. It also has some nice additional options in the settings menu.

Yep, never owned one but used many. Used to be a few floating around the office.
It's pretty stock which is nice. Im talking more about the abominations like touchwiz.

Devices which participated in the Beta programme will be part of the first wave of smartphones to get the official Android update, along with a number of Android One devices.
I'd dearly like to know which models qualified for the Beta program, because I regularly check for my Mate 10 Pro, and have never seen anything for my phone.

This. OxygenOS is probably the best version of Android out there.

Next month came and went, and still no Android Pie released. I guess we will have to wait for next year. Thanks Huawei...

Or the networks?

When the whole world got the GPU Update (including SA), my phone never upgraded because of Vodacom.

From what I read Android Pie will focus a lot of privacy features, not only the owner of the phone but also those calling the owner. It has already seen the removal of some functions, which include the ability to record calls. A number of apps that identify caller locations or identity have been removed. Gonna be interesting times. I will wait a few months before I hit the download and installation button for Pie.

Not waiting for Pie, really.

Blocking recording to protect those who call the owner piss me off.
