When Huawei smartphones will get Android 9

The only reason I prefer ios to android is the updates, still waiting for android 9 on my android. No where in sight

Agreed.

Will not be upgrading to Pie whenever it becomes available for my Note 9. I have reached the end of my upgrades.

Although I don't have call recording, there have been times that I wish I had.

There is many on Android. They one you would be happy with is ACR by NLL from the app store.
 
No I mean, this is the first I've heard that android will be blocking call recording functionality (among other things, I assume)

The question has to be posed though, why is the inability to record calls such a big issue for you? What types of calls are you having that recording them is a fundamental requirement for you?

Well, it is for recording, I don't lie to you. Governments can do, why I shouldn't?
It is so convenient, that during a call I can focus on the conversation instead of trying to memorize a street number, or a list of items I am requested to look for.

While I am telling the truth, you don't. A reason why you were asking is still inside you. I do not deal with this, not my problem.

Call recording works fine on my Mate 20 pro, so no, it's not blocking call recording, not in this country anyway, perhaps it does in other countries?

I don't know, it shouldn't, as access to the voice stream is blocked by Android 9.

It may work if you turn on loudspeaker and record from the microphone source, but it is so awkward workaround, you shouldn't even mention it then.
