When is it acceptable not to give a tip?

Anyone tip counter and kitchen staff at a takeaways place like Steers?

I sometimes catch the eye of a griller/flipper and wave a note, saying it's for them, with thanks. But never at McD, which is generally drive-thru.

Not since take-aways are now priced the same as a sit down restaurant (Nandos/KFC/Steers/etc) - and the service is usually ****ty.

If its take-aways from a restuarant - I'll tip - but no more than 10%.
 
One time I don't tip, is if I order takeaways.

Must say it pisses me off when the waiter asks me "how much?" with this begging stare, like he/she did me a huge favor drawing up the bill.
 
Tipping is a way for cheapskate owners to not pay their staff properly and make customers feel bad about it. I never tip, or well almost never, have perhaps done it once or twice ever.
 
depends on what you call bad service. can't blame waiter for bad food.

I always tip. lowest is 5%. highest tip I have ever given was 30%. chick was hot and very good at her job.
