When is Vodacom launching BIS?

.... and again, connected with no through put.

I only have a few hours connection (randomly - so can't plan anything) per day. I am HIGHLY going to recommend to ANYONE to never go on Vodacom for Blackberry 'services' or data. My friends choose SMS over BBM simply because there's a chance I'll get it

It must be where u okes live or something cos I'm cruising on BIS 3G at the mo

I believe there was a problem affecting some places in Southern Gauteng. Mine seems much better now. Have stayed connected the entire evening so far. Whereabouts are you DolbySurround? :-)

My friend got data charges in his vc contract and when he inquired they shiwed him that there is indeed limites to this unlimited offer. Their must be some sort of misunderstanding with my friends contract or something else vodacom is really misleading the people.

And yes. Vodacom has been dropping its standards regarding bis lately.

That is why I tell everyone to use BIS on prepaid - u get more gigs for your buck..

I once had like R6 on my account the next morning I woke up had nothing but now days don't load anything on my account and keep a spare phone for calls

Please tell him not to use the "Vodafone Browser" and the "Facebook App". If you use the Vodafone Browser and you leave the Vodafone portal to other sites then you get charged for data as this does not use the blackberry.net APN.
Damn, i did not know the FB App would be a problem? I used it during June and July with no data bill. But now I noticed that I got a R50 data bill for August. September was only R3 (i was out of the country for 2 weeks but even so would have thought it would be higher).

When I emailed customer support the dude emailed me the following:
Please check the following on your phone to ensure that you do not get billed for using the internet on your device.

Go to Browser – click the Menu key on the phone – select Options – select Browser Configuration. Ensure that the browser is defaulted to Internet Browser/ Blackberry Browser.

If you have added book marks when using the incorrect browser setting the bookmarks will still use the Vlive browser even when the default browser is internet.

Go to the browser on the main menu and then press the Blackberry (menu) key and select Bookmarks – Scroll to a bookmark and highlight a bookmark and press Blackberry key and select Edit Bookmark. It will display what browser is being used for that bookmark. Check all bookmarks.

Regards

Is the TwitterApp also gonna bypass BIS like the FB app??

Since when did RIMs own facebook app start incurring data charges?

I do believe it has something to do with the network here (Randpark Ridge).

A year ago, I'd be getting HSDPA data speeds (2mbps+) both upstairs and downstairs. That's degraded over the past months to 400-700mbps upstairs and GPRS (unusable) downstairs. I've simply put my Vodacom SIMs aside and taken a Telkom 3G account. Instantly I got twice the speed, better latency and stability.

It appears Vodacom have simply neglected this part of the network

Sorry guys. I meant you must not use things like Facebook in the Vodafone browser because this will not go through BIS. Using the Blackberry Facebook App is 100% fine. The main thing that you must remember is STAY AWAY FROM THE VODAFONE BROWSWER!!!!! :-)

Sorry about the confusion guys.

... Dead this morning again

Wish I had another BB to double check its not the phone

Had no problems recently since after the big down time

I'm in Randpark Ridge - but I'm beyond logging faults.

Nothing happens because they blame the phone, firmware or are aware of the situation. But as I'm about to explode - I will probably do it shortly

Please log a call. My call is still pending. According to the notes on the system that I can see there is a fault with the one tower which they are now attending to. Perhaps there is a similar situation in your area.

Phew - picture me in a slow motion dive across the room in an attempt to wrest the BB out of my missus' hands! :D

Dolby: we all can't be having problem phones. I was more than happy with VC's BIS until about a month ago. I live nowhere near you so its not area specific. VC's BIS in general seems to be going downhill. If it carries on like this I'm going to switch. Anyone using cell c's BIS, how's their service?

... dead last night
... dead this morning
... dead currently.

I've reported the area as it's apparanty the network is fscked again. I thought Vodacom may have a monitoring solution or something that blinks to say TOWER OVER CAPACITY

I am also having the same issues since Friday - I lodged a call with Vodacom Data
082 155 it has now been assigned to the Radio /Operation guys... I am also assuming the same that the tower is over capacity I can browse without any issues from early hours of the morning until 7am or so.

I had to explain to the consultant my problem like a child step by step what is happening that their is no throughout put happening at all, basically comes and goes, comes and goes. Did all the necessary battery pulls etc, have 2 x blackberry, normal phone and none having throughout put.

The consultants did get back on me Sunday - Now I am probably in a waiting queue until they can send over the technicians to resolve the base station/tower in question.

Bladdy ridiculous I am not the only one experiencing the same problem another friend from me about 8KM also having the same issues.

Update on my data charges

Take note, beware
Got a data bill of R50 for August on my BB 9700. I think the Facebook App was the culprit though it could have been the Twitter app too. Will have to see... can anyone confirm?
Vodacom advanced data services called me, and they are reversing the charges. They reckon some of the RIM apps have the Vlive settings hence the data charges! They are disabling my internet access so that i can only access the internet via BIS.

It was recommended that I uninstall all my apps and then reinstall them via BB Browser. Then if they persist in using Vlive settings then they won't work but at least i won't be billed for it.

Anyone else have downtime since about 11 last night? I can't register on the host routing table and my gprs/edge is small. In the Houghton area, Johannesburg.
