When Should I Be Worried?

The ISP account can be used on any ADSL line. The physical line speed is the factor. Do you have a 4mbps line at home as well?

Going to be upgrading from the 1st of September to 4Mb at home. Thanks for the answer.

Thanks for stats. Interesting... May/June - was that almost 24/7?

Did you gradually reduce your DL's or was the downward trend due to throttling?

My downloads are never 24/7 as the laptop gets used for work most days. Initial use was as a result of acquiring stuff I wanted. Now I download when something takes my fancy. The usage drop off is as a result of my lower usage rather than throttling.

My experience is similar. Hardly get to 30gb anymore!! Latest one is for my dad... the entire Lonesome Dove series (10gb).

Thats the whole argument of uncapped. Once people realize the net ain't going anywhere, your usage naturally drops off. It's not I want everything now, it becomes , I'll grab it when I need it.

I used to have a folder on my hardrive quaintly called "Stuffs". This folder had things like winrar, vurtual dub , all the miscellaneous tools I use in a PC and used to keep up to date. Now, no need, if I need a app I'll just download it.

Does mweb throttle sites like rapidshare and megaupload over weekends and after hours or is it 'open'. I know that during the day these sites are unuseable. I wanna get a uncapped line at home, but if these are heavily shaped after hours & over weekends, then....

One of the proxies I am using, is in France, more or less where SEACOM terminates, and where Twilight Hammer, EU WOW realm is, it works out cheaper than to buy prepaid unshaped the whole time, and i get to raid in 25man's with only 230ms latency.

*edit
down from 500-600ms latency, in game, not ping tests, ping tests are all low below 300

So MWEB is so good, gamers have to buy
a proxy server account. FFS, just get a better
ISP.

ok so i have downloaded 77 gigs so far.... but i have stopped downloading completely since i do not want to get kicked off.... think its ok or should i stress?

They shape them all the time dude. Sites which
were not shaped (missed out) also got hit.

.. it's fine if you just want to bash MWeb in every thread (well actually it's irritating now), but rather don't answer people's questions like this, it's pretty useless.

They may technically shape them all the time but obviously after hours and on weekends they are a lot faster than during the day, I usually get full speed with those sites queuing a few downloads from a few different sites. Speeds can vary quite a bit though depending on the site, but they always have with the free services.

They don't kick immediately/non-negotiably any more in any case, they'll warn you if they think it warrants it.

So no need to stress in any case, and I don't think 77GB is very much. On 384kb though it might be a bit close to maxing your line all month.

if you do abuse, will they just give a warning and so slow down?
or will they say stop using your account til the end of the month?

Well they used to just send your account off
to a 'landing page' on the internet. Then you
have to make your own arrangements to
reply from an internet cafe. They will never
allow you back unless you subscribe to a more
expensive account.

There is talk of a new approach through
warnings and so on, but we've not had any
feedback about people recently affected.

I'm not that interested in whether you like what
or how I post. This is a feedback forum and that's
what I'm doing. If it irritates for whatever reason
(fanboi, employee etc) then live with it or don't
read it. I can only give accounts of my own
experiences or what seems to be a typical one
based on other feedback. I have noticed a few
people who's mission online seems to be to
plug MWEB. Part of their campaign no doubt.

The last bit you wrote about weekends is also BS
by the way. Weekends are not relief days for the
shaping. You may find some faster speeds at
around 2AM, but even they are not nearly optimum
for the line in use.

tbf I would echo GingerBeer's comments. Expect full speed on shaped protocols after about 1am until about 8am. If you get full speed at any other time consider it good luck on your part.

Ok, thanks guys...im really not into downloading at 2AM !
so i guess Mweb is a no-go.

Well the shaping obviously isn't just either full line speed or shaped. I said it becomes a lot faster (than "unusable" during the day) after hours and on weekends. It then speeds up to full speed at around 1am or whatever.

And you're contradicting Gingerbeer more than echoing him, he said at 2am you may find faster speeds which still won't be optimum whereas you're saying by 1am you can get full line speed. My experiences are closer to yours in any case.
