Morning Guys

As the topic states and might have been asked before, will we see upgrades to our lines ?

I have a Wimax connection and line speed now only permits for 512k am tired of the slow speed and at the same time tired of hearing am syncing at 6-7-8-10 mbs south northern blah blah blah:D:sick:

On a serious note will we see an upgrade :( please

Thanks

I can't believe how mean they are not to give us lowly users a slight speed increase to make youtube somewhat usable at least .

just out of curiosity, who is that question directed to? Telkom SA, or users of this board? I guess if we knew here, there would have been a frenzy on the boards--the million dollar question that is.

at the Telkom techie hiding out here or the guys that have inside info

You need to ask Telkom that question... but good luck with getting a reply.

The rest of us are just as much in the dark as you.

To be honest I think pretty much everybody at Telkom is also in the dark (with one or two frustrated exceptions).

The answer I fear is never. Why would they bump 384kbps users up? It's a cash cow for them.

the problem i think is the fact that most about 90% of adsl users are 384/512kb lines which is why telkom havent or wont upgrade those speeds.
out of around 2million adsl users i think there are only 20k 4mb users & the rest are 512/384, i dont think helkom can support that many 10mb users in any life time

but hey thats just my 5c

I'm with you on this one. They'll need to do a ton of upgrades to support even slightly faster speeds for the low end users.

Easier upgrading a minority to 10mb than upgrading the majority to even double their current speed.

Maybe MYBB can ask them since none of us can get replies back to our questions from Telkom. I know I have tried.

YouTube is usable at 384K/512K speeds--the problem is the latencies not speed bumps.

Don't see how buffering a video results in latency, as the 384 / 512 and 10mbps have the same latency mostly. Just as the OP said, its painful to go to youtube on 384 and 512.

Even though we wish for an upgrade, the 10mbps guys are probably getting because of our "funding" Telscum / Telripoff / Tel***holes

And like the others have states, 10mbps is great for marketing, even though its very empty, but they will use it to lure people into their 1mbps buy adverts, giving lots of empty promises.

So Telkom, with stats like that, explain to us again how exactly are your network "world class"?

I think you managed to deliver a world-class-ish service for the world cup duration, but your network is nowhere near as modern as you try & spin in your lets-all-get-aboard-the-sky-train ad. Great for those very few that managed to get on the new ride, but the majority of your ADSL kiddies are left playing on the rusty swings in the old playground. World-class for 20k users only isn't really world-class at all, now issit?

You know what would really help to put you on approach-to-world-class status? Let us know what your plans are so we can make informed decisions. I waited almost 3 months for the promised upgrades, hoping there would be a 1 or even 2 meg option as I only synch at 2600kbps, but I finally realized you're pulling a WA so said fuggit & upgraded to 4meg last week.

Telkom .. world-class in the same way that uncapped with a FUP is not.

so true, so very very true...
telkom might say they world class but still south africa is 60 out of 66 countries for internet speeds,.,,, like wtf mate!!!

Telkom have mentioned before that there are no plans to upgrade 384k and 512k speeds

Why would they anyway.. they are making a fortune out those lines..

The lines will be upgraded when you decide to stop smoking or cut back on drinking and take the plunge into 4mbit.
It doesnt cost that much more

the dif in price between 512 & 4mb is only about R90 & its 8x faster!!! - & once the 4mb lines have been upgraded the speed diff will be from a max download of 60kb/s to approx 1200kb/s - so for R90 u getting a lot more!!
