When will iBurst reduce prices or increase caps?

In contrast to some other providers who are able to offer bandwidth at R1.14 per GB and ADSL boosters which retail for R60 or even less per GB, iBurst charges R499 for 3GB (R167/GB) and R199 per 1GB.
The PPU rate is even higher. Despite this, the service is shaped - which helps iBurst cut down on P2P "abuse". Other offerings such as Neotel uncapped at R999 (at almost 2.7 times the max speed of iBurst) and Axxcess uncapped (384kbps) at R999 are substantially cheaper per GB.

When will iBurst reduce their pricing, or increase caps or increase their throttled speeds?

We're hoping that iBurst realises that the competition is steadily overtaking them in terms of b/w provision and they'll react positively. :)

Please have your say.

Iburst should double or even triple the cap. I pay R599.00 for 5GIGs where I can get double that over at Neotel for the same price.

If Iburst can do that I will have no reason to switch. I'm happy with their speeds and everything else, just the cap is way to small.

Some people download 20GIGs while throttled, I would rather take a 20GIG cap and then just be completely cut off when cap is reached.

Given ibursts reliance on telkom, iburst has the ability to set the curve, not be behind it.

I reckon by the 2nd week of October we should see price drops and increases in caps.

That's when Jannie's "100 days" are up...:)

We actually saw an increase in cap already.

Jannie handed out 2*250MB to subscribers.

The promise was no package adjustments untill iBoss works to Big Boss Jannie's satisfaction.

I guess we will see announcements later for maybe starting 1st of October.

But don't expect anything before iBoss is working smoothly!

PS: iBurst is still nursing the bruises after announcing the PrePaid "Package"

Well today they are really down and out, I pop my mail via iBurst to my ISP provider (they having DNS issues now - can't get mail), also my dashboard still does not work, today their website won't let you logon, and if you call help - tadah - they are offline :(

holy crap is iburst really that crap compared to all the other ISp's?

Nope. People just seem to over react. The prices are a bit too high and sometime there are problems with the network. Still 1000x better than 3g and considering iBurst is wireless it contends quite well with fixed lines.

You do realise that the infrastructure providers would be making a loss on a product at that price.

Usage patterns around the world are greater than that, ie less per GB. Those companies are not making a loss. If they were, they wouldn't be around, yet high cap or uncapped accounts on >8Mbit/sec connections are abundant around the world. Now in SA we're seeing the introduction of slow speed uncapped accounts, 2.7Mbit, 384kbps and even 4Mbit - these are slow and
the total usage is therefore little - unless one can stop time.

soon.. soon ppl 200 bux for 500kbps uncapped.. or 1mbps uncapped for 300 bux would be awesome

more like, once a day.

also dont bother trying to use iburst during the day for anything productive

We are not talking about the rest of the world... we are talking about South Africa. The wholesale costs of the bandwidth in ZA is more than that... someone is losing money on those accounts. This means that you are most likely subsidising those users with your Internet payments.

Peter thanks for this tread. Your credentials and reputation on this forum is very good.
I am not sure if this thread will bring about meaningful change. (Case point - The iBurst PrePaid offer..)

*sigh* Nothing has changed.
The iBurst CEO has clearly stated that it is in the best interest of the Shareholders of iBurst to keep prices and profits as high as possible for as long as possible.

Agreed, Vodacom 3G in my area is bad, cause of the mountains.

I can get a 4 mbps ADSL at my place, but I don't wanna go that route.

I don't wanna pay Telkom rent for their line.

I like to own everything that I buy.

/waiting for the middle of October....

Buy your own router.
Rent for your ADSL line (it's a subscription without contacts) is similar to your ISP subscription (although not 100% the same) - You can cancel at any time if you are not happy. You can switch ISP's at the drop of a hat with ADSL.
