I mean you can walk into any electronics store and find 20 iPod docks and speaker systems.

But why no Android docks?

Android sales now account for 75% of the smart phone market.

So where are all the Android Docks?

Good question, the problem I think comes in the lack of a docking standard between the manufacturers. Most good iPod docks will come with aux/USB in these days anyway.

Online, I have to import anything to do with my phone, car & desk dock as-well as NFC tags. Its a bloody pain

Simple really.
What's an Android? What dimensions is an Android?

The fragmentation causes increased costs, which is why there aren't many

Ja, but I still don't want a device with a pointless and useless dock wasting space smack bang in the middle of it! :D

Audio docks? Ive seen some (Phillips & Samsung mostly) at major retailers.

You're all wrong.

You may find some docks at the Makro centre in Centurion, electronics section.

Also find ALOT of them at the bloemfontein store, which probably means there are plenty at other stores aswell.

They work with the micro usb at the bottom of the phone, others have car like grasping tools that holds the phone above the speakers, and then via bluetooth connects with the phone.

You have to make sure the dock also supports MTP if you're using a Galaxy S3 etc.

They aren't round circles you know :)

Only problem I found was the placement of the micro usb port. Alot of docks use the connector.

Which phone do you have?

One thing thats nice about samsung is, the vodacom world store has all the accessories available (usually)

Saw that Takealot is having a sale on Apple Speaker dock and came searching for threads on this:

http://www.takealot.com/tv-audio-vi...audio/philips-docking-system-ds-6100,29565755

R499

Why not for the little green robot?

These things are hard to come by - there's someone on these forums that gave a very detailed report on an Android system - just gotta hunt in that subforum - but it also cost and arm and a leg :(

Was one of these:

http://www.pricecheck.co.za/offers/32951469/Philips+AS351+Android+Docking+Speaker/

Philips AS351 Android Docking Speaker

EDIT:

And found the thread, a bit dated but still useful:

Your answer is partially right. The fact that Android comes on a plethora of different devices, makes it rather unfeasible for manufacturers to make USB line-out docks for them them...

Fragmentation has nothing to do with it. Or else Apple would be in the same boat.

Android docks tend to use the micro usb for charging and app via bluetooth for playback

THe ranges are from
Samsung available in Dion wired etc
Phillips fidelio range from most stores including kalahari and PNP.
SOny has some
LG has some

But i.t.o of price the apple docks are way cheaper

Just look around

Apple's "fragmentation" has 2-3 sizes on currently shipping devices.
Androids fragmentation has hundreds of sizes

In Cape Town, I have found more Android based docking stations that Apple ones - most of them I have seen at Makro and Game and alot of them are with connectors and bluetooth enabled but all certified for Android (even has the little green robot on the labels ect).

Makro sells them (I see that's been pointed out), as does Foto Discount World, Sounds Great, etc.

But they're just as insanely overpriced as the Apple stuff or even more so, not really worth it.
