Where are all the Android Docks?

Apple's "fragmentation" has 2-3 sizes on currently shipping devices.
Androids fragmentation has hundreds of sizes

Uh, no, that has nothing to do with fragmentation... Base functionality is the same across all devices- all use microUSB as the connective standard, and Android as the OS overall supports USB audio. There is no Android fragmentation in the operation of line out audio. Same with Apple.

iPhone only it seems?
some of them say "most smart phones" or "samsung noteII" but I think these will only plug into the audio jack and not via the micro usb to charge it as well. so more of a speaker stand then anything else...

perhaps the problem is the standardisation of the locating usb port is defferent for all android phones. the functionality of the iphone / ipod is simple, it drops into the dock and off you go. my xperia 10 has the usb on the top, yet a samsung has it elsewhere, so how do they manufacture it to standerdisation? They would have to have cables, with different usb connectors or blutooth, which all adds cost. Now if all android phone manufacturers would get together and standerdise the ports and port location, you could end up with another reason to attacke the iphone.

Which phone do you have?

One thing thats nice about samsung is, the vodacom world store has all the accessories available (usually)

S3 I-9300GT (if memory serves, that is the model number)

I mainly import my stuff like the docks because its significantly cheaper, paid $8 for my car mount and my desk dock, and a further R80ish for customs :D

OK part of the problem at Makro at least is that the stuff is very poorly labeled and advertised. The radios and sound equipment on display there has very little in the way of specifications and one would pretty much have to just stand there and google every single model to check what the capabilities of the unit are.

Makro has the Samsung DA-e670 on special(ish) for R1999.

Has iphone & android (microusb) dock, bluetooth, wired and wireless network, aux and USB connectivity, dlna and airplay compliant. Picked one up after coming across this thread. It should suit our household, with its mix of Apple and Android devices, and hopefully the openelec box will be able to stream to it as well.

Sound quality and looks are good (imho). There is a nice valve amp version in a cherrywood finish which looks beaut, but I'll wait for the price to come down (currently Rk5.5).

Cheers
Ian

What I would like is a dock for a Samsung Tablet... something that can charge the tablet as well as play music and such...

Ok, I can now confirm the unit works like a bomb - good sound, and all the features work well (wifi airplay with iphone, allshare from pc etc).

Very happy...
Ian
