Where can I get an iphone 3gs repaired?

Hey guys

Decided to go MTBing today and after a really good 20KM ride I Packed everything into my car and drove off only to discover that I had left my iphone on my roof when I could not find it.

I raced back to Groenkloof and some awesome person found it and had handed it in but Unfortunately the phone will not turn on.

The phone was in a cover and the screen and the back of the phone look perfect(not a single scratch)and from what I can see the screen has not been cracked.

I have plugged it into my PC and nothing has happened,I have also plugged it into the power and still nothing. Do you have any suggestion to trying to get the phone on and what do you think could be the problem? Also where is a good place to get this phone fixed? Are there any reputable businesses that can fix my phone? Will vodacom be able to fix it by any chance or will it have to be sent over to the US?

I am not covered by apple because I dropped the phone and it is jail-broken so that is a problem obviously :(

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
 
Some things you can try yourself:

- Try holding the HOME and POWER buttons in together, see if that does anything.

- Alternatively, try putting the phone into DFU mode, and then seeing if iTunes picks it up, and then restoring if so.

Thanks for the info :) I did try that yesterday with no luck.

I phoned ifix in Pretoria and was engaged I then phoned the CPT Branch and spoke to them,I then called imob.co.za and the guy seemed so on the ball that I drove to Johannesburg and went to Gmobile.The guy at Gmob opened it up in front of me and replaced the screen but still would not turn on,he then tried a couple of other things which did not help so he has taken it and will call me on Monday to tell me what the problem is.

http://www.gmob.co.za/ seem's like the place to go, they look very jacked and their doorbell has the same tone as a iphone SMS ringtone :)
 
Cool :) they sound/look like they know what's happening.

How much for screen repair?

I suspect there's a problem with the battery or the battery circuitry.

I spoke to you this morning regarding your unit.

Unfortunately your 3Gs is beyond repair due to your PCB board being bent. Intern one or more of your BGA balls on your MCU chip is not making a contact and most probably ripped off from its tracks.

We are sincerely sorry for your loss

@gmobile: how much would a 3GS new stock case housing cost me?
Could you give me prices for back +front , as well as a new volume button for the 3GS (old one fell off)

Thanks for checking it for me,if I ever have a problem with my ipad or anyone I know needs a I portable devise fixed I will be recommending gmobile.

I noticed in your sig that you got a iphone 4 shipped here,how did you go about doing that and what were the duties on the package from customs? I am going to sell my ipad to replace the iphone I think so any info you can share about how you imported the iphone and how much it costed in total would be appreciated.

How would be the best way to get my hand on A iphone 4?

Hey man. Unfortunately I don't have the info you're looking for..

I was recently in the UK on holiday and sold my 3GS here in SA and then ordered the iPhone 4 online before I left & then got it delivered to my family's house in UK.
IF you're thinking of ordering directly from Apple, keep in mind the Apple UK site ONLY accepts UK credit cards (they're very iffy with stuff like that), and that they only deliver to the country of purchase.

The iPhone 4 will apparently be here end of Sept (according to a recent announcement by Vodacom), so you can either wait a month and a bit, or another alternative would be to source one on eBay and then get it shipped here. (I don't have too much info on customs taxes and that, but when I was researching it came to something ridiculous like R2k+ for all the costs if i can remember correctly)

Gmob I have some dust under my screen is there anyway i can clean it out or do I have to take it in for repairs?

Thanks George. I'm curious why the fairly big price difference between 3G and 3GS? Surely they should be pretty similar components?

Also, about the broken Volume button. Do you have replacements and how much?

Hi

The 3G and 3GS are 2 totally different phones...

When comparing backplates:

1) The system connector for starters are different in 2 ways> on the 3GS, Antenna cable and surface mounts are different

2) Vibra key on 3GS is slightly larger than 3G.

3) On the 3G The apple Emblem print is embedded, unlike the 3Gs which is printed just bellow the protector epoxy film.

4) Camera supports are slightly different> seeing that the 3G has the 2mp camera and 3Gs 3mp (lens slightly larger> with auto focus)

Just the over all feel of both covers are different > manufacturing costs are slightly more due to a higher quality unit.
