Where did my 1Mb go?

I bought a 5Mb data bundle for R9.25 today on Vodacom Broadband Standard. My device is 3.6 capable but I get around 2.2Mbps where I am, which says this tower is not on 7.2.(*cough*)

Within a few seconds of connecting I got a text message saying "You Only have 4000 KB left before costs will be deducted from your call account."

That means 1Mb just disappeared between pressing connect and starting my browser. So where did it go?
 
It is still there.

The exact moment your data changes from 5000KB to 4999KB, you get that sms.

Nothing to worry about.

I just received another message:
"Costs are now being deducted from your call account."
So I loaded a few pages of text and the system thinks I used 5Mb already.:eek:

Is this beta software?
 
*111# says I now have 0.7Mb left. It hasn't used funds from my call account either, so the message was wrong.
Well thats the fastest I've ever used 5Mb.
 
It could very well be your Windows, Internet Explorer, AntiVirus, or a thousand other software on your PC is automatically updating when an internet connection is detected.

EDIT: Yes those SMS's dont work as expected for me either.
For me theyre usually a bit slow though.

I don't think so, I update manually and everything normally behaves.

Adobe Acrobat,
Google Chrome (Any google product for that matter),
Any Apple Product (ITunes, Quicktime),
99% of Download Managers,
Windows Defender,
Any Microsoft Office Suite (This is a long discussion, it doesnt update, but it does use the connection from 2003 upwards),
Java,


... the list really is endless. When people say automatic updates, they dont just mean windows.
Most programs decently coded automatically check updates when connected.


In retrospect though, my morning routine consists of:

1) Check GMail. Plain Text mails only, i dont do attachments. About 4-6 emails.
2) Check my oDesk messages (Similar to GMail), about 1-4 messages.
3) Check MyBroadband. Usually check about 2-3 Threads.
4) Check my favorite Blog site (1 daily post by author).

That alone, i just checked for clarity, clocked me in at 3.7MB.
Add to this the knowledge that i use very aggressive cache settings for images on websites and that figure could be WAAAAYYYYY higher on a default machine.
 
Using Gingg's MDMA I did a *111# then option 1 then option 4 , there is no option 6.

I was hoping someone would say they would check the system was working instead of blaming my pc and everything else. A small bundle of only 5 meg costs R9.95 you know!
