Well my laptop can access a system that is about 5x more powerful than your Ryzen.

Actually make that more.... I have more power in about 10 countries with VPN's to compete if you like.
Well, I do sometimes develop SQL scripts on the production databases, be that in Virginia, Dublin or Sydney. So there is that.

Look, laptops are not as powerful as desktops. Yet. I do hope that changes in future. I am all for APUs and the death of the dGPU which will result in more powerful mobile computing.

Our company decided its best if i work from home, because I treat office days as mini holidays. I spend most of the time catching up with everyone, having coffee, taking people for lunches, going for walks where i talk to people about "work".

Then again, going to the office for me is 6 hours on the road. 3 Hours with no traffic to get to the office, 3 hours back. Office is 300km from my house.
Haha. Same here, except I'm 600km from the office and I claim my kms at AA rates.

Haven't been to the office since 2018/19. But when I'm there the lunches and all the money in my account from travel claims are great.

Been working from home since March 2020... I have a few homes so I work from any of those... Pretoria (HQ), Durban, Ladysmith, Stanger... But we are required to go to the office once in two months for something HR decided to call "proof of life..." but it's all, good I won't complain about that

I had fun working from this spot. Sea in the background because we had one of those company wide zoom calls....

I would also like to point out my company enforces you to WFH in the province you are based. So I envy those guys traveling and working remotely.

I would like to know the stats on how many occupations are given the option to WFH.

It would suck to be in a industry where you lack opportunities to WFH.

And how long did it take you to move that crap outside and back again later today.?
Vs a Laptop in like 1 second.
There are laptops way more power than your current RIG at the same price.

Nice Samsung QLED or OLED laptop screen with 15hrs battery comes to mind.

They enforce geofencing or something?

I'll give you that one, it was not as easy as a laptop.

Well, I did move the whole blooming table and everything on it, but not easy.

That was my old setup, crappy AMD A10, 21" LCD.... but it's OK for a holiday house PC.

Our management after looking at results - we are encouraged by the increasing number of people wanting to work from the office. Please click here to confirm your card renewal request. You will have a steaming mug of coffee waiting for you and what's more - cost of this coffee will be deducted over 24 months so you hardly pay anything at all. Love you all - HR.

Funny story - my last company moved to CPT CBD which was had a lot of us quit (and the company folding shortly after the move).

So when I was interviewed at other places I specifically asked if they own the building they are in because I do not want a repeat of my current situation. All 3 companies I was looking into owned their buildings. The one I went with since sold the buildings to a BEE partner from which they then leased it. Came Covid times they just gave up rent on 80% of the floor space and switched to a smaller hot desk setup - perfect.

The other two companies, well I can't seem to find any office location online for Triple Point Technologies in Stellenbosch and Mediclinic IT moved from Paradyskloof into the BAT buildings next to the cop shop in Stellenboscsh CBD.

Looks like I dodged two bullets there.
