ProAsm, thats not very encouraging at all! [:(][:(][:(] How about something like, "Well, Wired, we busy launching 10 Satelites for extra bandwidth at the moment, so sit tight"

Is MyWireles taking a turn for the worst?

I hope you can elaborate on that post.

LOL, this whole thing has taken everyone by surprise as contentions were not supposed to be an issue at this stage, but they are, and its not just a case of flicking a switch and bingo, we're back on the autobahn like it was a week or 2 ago.
We have just formed a special bandwidth planning task group today and although it may seem a while to some before anything concrete happens, but I can assure you we will do whatever it takes to have a solid system [;)]

i hope so :(

any ETA on that "solid system"?

what do we do in the mean time... wait?

I assume then that MyWireless has grown its subscriber base quicker than anyone anticipated Pro? If so then I guess in some ways its a nice problem for Sentech to have...however I hope you carry this message into Sentech: The very credibility of the MyWireless solution is built upon offering broadband connections - as soon as that credibility is compromised, Sentech will lose customers, if they haven't started losing them already.
I am certainly hoping that Sentech can show commitment to maintaining a product that delivers what it promises.

Ok. So now im seeing some light at the end of the tunnel... thanks ProAsm [:)] I guess I can sit back and give a big sigh of relief... though I do feel for those who are on the 512K package. They just have to just sit and wait while their bank account goes down...

I think this happens with all new technologies, wow and then whooops, give it time and it will become like our cell phone network, in the begining is was bad and then it grew, I feel sorry for myself a 512K user and all the users but thats what you expect from any new technologies, you will just have to wait, and ProAsm best of luck !

Keep Surfing

All kudos to ProASM for taking the trouble to inform MyWireless users, and brickbats to Sentech management for utter incompetency. I gather that it's a contention issue due to the number of subscribers - smacks of bad planning to me, which is supposed to be a management competency. Integral to any project of any kind, is the formulation of contingency plans, which seem to be sorely lacking. Bandwidth planning should be the function of a formalised management committee, which should've been established prior to the rollout, with regular review as the rollout commenced, and not now the function of a special taskgroup in an endeavour to rectify problems. Ah well - poor noone (both literally and figuratively)!

Is it only me or has the snail-bahn recovered somewhat [:)]

I fully support what you are saying... I have *no* problem with a
system that is down or slow, if Sentech tells me about it. When
there is planned maintenance, then surely sending off a single email
is not asking to much.

ProAsm: I would like to offer my service in putting up a website
where this planned work (or anything that effects the usage of the
system) can be logged. This information seems crucial to all of us
on this forum at least. We can put just about any interface
onto it:
- HTTP
- SMS
- USSD
- *anyting that is easy for you to notify me/us*

I feel for you ProAsm...it's not nice to work for a company with different ideals than the individual. Unfortunately, it is most often the case.

As for Sentech itself, I have stopped endorsing MyWireless. As a home user (in most cases), it's probably OK. Myself, I am slightly dissapointed with myself for going Wireless instead of DSL...and maybe that will still happen if the service continue like this. I have to work from home and when the towers play up like this, well it costs me money - and being in IT, I have enough stress as it is.

Anyway, like so many companies do, MyWireless was launched without the needed planning and testing. If I had to rate it at the moment, I would rather not comment. I feel sorry for the guys who are trying like ProAsm and I am sure there's more in Sentech (maybe not in the call centre). Thanks for your efforts...it is appreciated.

Sad but true, Telkom can't be moved to provide services with the flick of a switch if one needs better bandwidth at the accesspoint ProASM mentioned elsewhere - and we can't expect Telkom to do their enemies a favour either...

What will the service levels be? Will Sentech be willing to publish a metric against which clients (and potential clients) can measure if they will receive value for money?

We are so used to Telkom and their darkness in the days of transparency that consumers are prepared to buy blindly.

I believe that ICASA should be requested at the ADSL hearings to rule that ISP's have to provide contention ratios (or other suitable metrics) so consumers can make informed decisions.

Just think of all the penalty rebates Sentech would have had to pay to their users over the past few weeks!

South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.

I have also stopped endorsing MyWireless. Now, when people ask me : "So how's that wireless thingy of yours going?", I respond with a "It sucks fscking donkey balls, don't ever consider it, rather make yourself a Telkom bitch".

Because that is the god honest truth. I'm glad I only signed up for the 128k package. I don't mind that much about the R650 a month, I just claim it as an expense. But I have to quite honestly say, that at the end of the day, even with Telkom ADSL's shortcomings it is a way fscking superior service than this MyDraadTrek sh1te that we're putting up with.

This is coming from a guy that enthusiastically got the service, had enough passion to reverse engineer a driver to get it going under Linux, built a cantenna, started an entire techincal help section and FAQ on the service , and has trolled these forums for months.

I'm gatvol of this service. I've been patient with it since the LAUNCH date. I've supported it since then, since it's an alternative. If I could cancel it today, I would.

Thank fsck I didn't sign up for a 512k package from day one, otherwise I would have been really screwed right now...

SENTECH. PROASM. WAKE THE FSCK UP. You only have like 1200 users or so at the moment. And your service is sucking 4ss. You are doomed.

Wow. Honesty. Your stock just went up with me 1000X [:D]

Perhaps if current MW users are told there is a problem via a press release they will cut you guys some slack?
But then again I'm not paying for the service as yet, so you may all end up being necklaced after all ...

Anyway, best of luck. I shall be waiting to sign on the bottom line once the problems have been sorted [8D]

You reckon they'll actually ADMIT to their being a problem? CMON? Don't take that bullsh1t! The helpdesk has been lying for months! So has everyone else. What is the point in cutting THEM some slack, seeing as how they haven't exactly been "reimbursing" us for the fsck-ed up service they've been giving?

MyWireless is WORSE then Telkom. Everytime I've logged a call with Telkom, they've sorted the problem out, connectivity wise. Sure, their service is crippled. But at least the service is WORKING, 99% of the day.

Fsck! 4 Towers were "down" in JHB this morning? Do you call that "acceptable"? They were down from 8:00am, to 1:30pm? Is that "service" ? People that are supposed to get 512Kbps of bandwidth is getting the same as I am on a 128K package? Is that service? Is that worthwhile?

Fsck Sentech.... And fsck the hole they pulled their little Wireless antennae out of.
