Where to get a decent russian???

It was 1 meal on its own without chips. But add the slap chips wrapped in paper nonetheless.

Now it's starting to all sound really familiar. Pretty sure it was something my parents used to eat during their youth. :p

Sputniks were awesome. The SA equivalent of an American corn dog, which is also scarce here in SA.

Maybe making nice Russians and Sputniks and slap chips in the northen suburbs of joburg could be a good business idea. Just add oil to everything and drain with paper.

I'd chow there often.

There are two reasons I don't eat russians anymore.

One thing I love is a good russian, like they used to make them years ago. One that is firm and not dried out when deep-fried. When cruising around and I see a fish and chips shop, I would pop in and buy a russian to see if they have good ones. To date I have not found a supplier of good russians. Had high hopes for some I bought at a German delicatessen in Elsburg, but was not impressed with it last night.

Any suggestions where I can source good russians?

Anyone remember Captain Dorego's on Church Square Pretoria.
Best Fish and Chips, can't remember having a Russian there though.

+1 Not a huge fan of russians but they sell these cheese grillers wrapped in bacon in a roll. Slap on some of that mustard they offer and man . . . They have quite a selection of meats as well. Pork lovers heaven.

At the end of the day all these places source from a few suppliers/manufacturers. Once you find a good russian, it should be easy to get the name of the supplier. I'm not too sure about your list, but will give it a try. #4 will be as bad as all the ones around Joburg. There is no Platteland Russian Factory.
