Where to get ADSL?

costs. telkom about R260
afrihost R29 per gig.

I get around max 64 kBps on a 384 kBps adsl line from Telkom and I read the other day that people get 100% on similar lines. Anyone with a possible answer?

Do you mean 64kilobits per second (kb/s) as opposed to 64 kilobytes per second (kB/s). If you're talking kilobits, then you do have a problem. On a 384kbps ADSL line, you should be getting around 35-40kB/s (280-320kb/s). Maybe you need to try a different ISP.

There's plenty of good deals out there, it just depends on what your needs are..

• What's your budget like?
• How many GB do do you plan to use per month?
• Would you be interested in an uncapped account?
• Do you want to download movies/series and other torrents?
• What speed would you like?
• Do you already have a Telkom line?
• Do you need to be mobile?

You might want to consider GConnect - they provides ADSL, 3G, and WiFi connectivity from one account. And since you already have a 3G modem, this will be perfect for ADSL, as well as occasional mobile connectivity when you need it. But you need to understand that there are some limitations with GConnect. If you don't mind them then great!

I am currently using Cybersmart.

I pay:
R125 per month for telscum closer 1
R179 for 384k ADSL line and 2GB cap.

Total:
R304 per month for 2GB.

The reason I got the closer line is you don't pay installation fees. Get the ADSL through Cybersmart and you pay R275 for installation and you receive an ADSL modem.

The R179 for 2GB package is not yet officially out, but I phoned their helpdesk and asked about it and if I can have it

P.S. Apparently they have a 384k uncapped for ~R510 per month that includes ADSL line rental so your total cost will be around ~R635 depending on what telkom line you use.

Edit: And I use 3rd party ADSL accounts on my line, so the Terms and Conditions are not enforced, just don't phone the Cybersmart helpdesk when your Afrihost account is borked, they will get pissed off then

Have a look at the Do options, especially if you want a 4meg line without uncapped!
