Where to get HSDPA cards

In preparation for the flurry of posts and PM requesting availability and location of HSDPA cards, I phoned a few Vodashops to check on availability.

The following stores all confirmed cards in stock. Being in Cape Town I mostly phoned around here. I suggest you call around before just going into a store. But it looks like the stores are ready and waiting!

Would I have to phone VSP (being my provider) to find out the cost involved in upgrading my data card? One year left of 2 year contract.

Ok, but are you saying that i get +-R400 for my 3g card or will i have to pay in +-R400 and hand my 3g card in to get an HSDPA card?
 
How to do an early upgrade

Here's the official line:

Customers have the option of a premature upgrade. What this implies is that customers will be able to upgrade their card and extend their contracts prior to their eligibility date. There will however, be a cost involved with this option. It should be noted that the extension of the contract for a further 24 months is based on the end date of the contract and not the date of the premature upgrade. The cost to the customer will depend on the number of months left on the original airtime contract.

Customers who would like to do a premature upgrade, should call the Retentions department on 082-1959 and apply for the premature upgrade. The Retentions Consultant will supply the customer with a quote for the premature upgrade and extension of the contract.

Such process can only be handled by the Retentions Department at Head Office and not at store level. Customers must liaise directly with such department as the upgrade will be processed internally at VSP and the HSDPA card will be couriered to the customer on receipt of the accepted quote.
 
Trade-in Option

Customers who would like to swop out their existing 3G Mobile Connect Cards will have such option and will receive a R400 (including VAT) discount on the HSDPA card.

Ok. Awesome.

So am I correct in saying that it effectively bolts another 2 year contract onto what you have left still. Essentially signing for a further 2 years waaaaay before the time?

No sure if this is true, I just bought my new HSDPA card @ Vadashop in Menlin, Pretoria and they did not know of this option:mad:
 
It's definitely true. The information posted here about the R400 trade-in, was actually copied from the document that went out to the retail shops.

I personally will rather keep the 3G card for R400, but you do have the option.

What did you pay, btw?

Where can I get a copy of the actual document, so I can show the ignorant people at Vodashop?

You can get mine for R450, but you will have to collect in Moreleta Park, Pretoria.

According to the very knowledgeable young lady (Saturday staff) at Canal Walk these cards are only available in PCMCIA format. If you have a MacBook Pro you're out of luck?

V3g, any idea if the new cards work in the PCI adaptor card or not and do you achieve the full HSDPA speed the cards are capable of?

I don't think the current Option HSDPA card will work but suspect the Novatel might, but it's not out yet.

But this is all pure speculation. We first need to test them.
 
Hmm, I will also take a regular 3G card off someones hands for R450. PM me!

BTW: Vodashop Cresta has stock at R2699 a piece. (I did not bother negotiating, will do that when I get to the store later)
