I'm sure there are going to be quite a number of spare 3G cards floating around with the launch of HSDPA - i'm keen to get hold of one.

I'm even willing to pay more than the R400 trade-in that Vodacom are going to pay for the old cards.

Any takers?? (in the JHB area would be easiest :D )

Or just 3g?
I may be wrong but i thought most of gauteng was GPRS/3G and not EDGE.

[edit] Just took a look at the coverage map and there is little more than 10 EDGE enable towers in the whole of JHB by the looks of things [/edit]

Would like to add myself to the list of people looking for a second hand 3G card :)

If someone's looking to flog one in the jhb area let me know.

Also searching for a V600i if any1 knows

I was wondering....
What is Vodacom planning to do with all the cards they get from trade-ins??
Where could we get hold of those - v3g :D

Maybe once pre-paid data bundles are launched, them 2nd hand 3G data cards could be donated to schools & communities with no fixed lines & no chance of affording ADSL - at least with pre-paid 3G one can decide how much money to spend in any given 30 day period, whereas ADSL is a fixed monthly rental whether you use ADSL or not in the same 30 day period, and the 50% rebate on internet connectivity for schools should help get past the cost of pre-paid data...

I don't see schools touching these. They get subsidised internet anyway like they do at varsity.

I saw that to. My thought there was that Vodacom thought that they would make Gauteng 3G instead of EDGE - but it has not materialised - else they just want to punish us? ;)

EDGE is being rolled out across the country, including Gauteng.

Various options are being considered for the returned 3G cards.

I've passed ic's idea about the schools on, I personally like it. Under one of the social programs, Vodacom has committed to deploy internet access to a large number of schools.

I did read that and they did say it should all be done by the end of the year - but why was Gauteng left for last? What was the reasoning (originally) behind it?

The Alcatel equipment in the western areas where easier to upgrade to EDGE than the Motorola equipment in the Eastern Areas of the country incl Gauteng. The same happened when EFR became available, Cape Town had EFR before Gauteng due to hardware problems on Motorola.

yeah me too, il offer R451.00 and il collect:D

ps. im using a v600i at the moment and its quite quick (WHEN I GET 3G Reception at home that is LOL)

ive got an express card in my laptop so the pcmcia card - vodacom doesnt really work so il have to get an external pcmcia adaptor :o

Anyone has a second hand card they want to get rid of in JHB.
Send me a pm with how much you want for it.

Excellent idea. With the pressure by govt. for companies to get involved in development issues this could be a major feather in Vodacom's hat.
