Where to go for Sharepoint Developer training?

Hi,

Hope someone here can recommend where to go for Sharepoint developer training in Jhb/CT? Searched Google a bit, but am getting nothing concrete. I am a developer myself but we have implemented Sharepoint at work and need to upskill a couple of people. Have loads of books etc, but yeah...need some formal training.

Any ideas where to go for training?

TorqueIT is very good but why not self study?
SharePoint is one of the beasts you perfect through practice. Lots of practice and a decent VM.
 
We have a VM running for dev, will look into the self study option - thanks. We have not used Sharepoint extensively at all, so looking at a course to get a foot in the door with it, so to speak. I think if I had worked a bit more in it and was comfortable...self study would be the way to go.

Also found CTU - same course.

Yeah, Torque IT and CTU are the only two I know of if you're wanting formal training.

Sharepoint, easy to setup, difficult to keep control of if not configured [-]draconially[/-] properly
 
SharePoint is a resource hog, never been impressed with it.
That being said, I go more out of textbooks than class training (has always been the case with MS training). I did custom SharePoint 2010 components for about 6 months, most frustrating .net development of my life. Recommend avoiding if possible, like VBA.

VM and practice is your best bet.

Custom Web Parts.
Custom Workflows.
.net Applications running in SharePoint etc.

Depends on the config. 2013 is miles ahead and I am not a SharePoint fan in the slightest.

Yep, SP2013 was implemented almost a year ago for a system. As my boss said the other day...before Sharepoint, he had one business problem he had to deal with...now that Sharepoint is here, he has 2. I have never been a fan, but it's here and the top dog execs love it...us low done techies, not so much. Not going to fight the system - rather try adapt to it and do my best to use it. Just glad I am not the one maintaining it all... :whistle:

2013 is only pretending to be less evil, it's true malevolence will by far outshine it's predecessors!

That said, if you must use Sharepoint I strongly recommend this Javascript library that allows you to use SP as an API, so you can construct your own HTML by making calls to SP

(My last gig was SP 2010. We were not allowed to edit the master pages, but, our designs had to be implemented. Cue me writing JS that rewrites the DOM on page load.... )

As for your implementation. Fancy, haven't seen that before.
Most people try work some CSS magic hectically into the Master Page.

Need to try this, any old code you might have to get me started :o
