These are asylum seekers, not illegal immigrants. It is a controlled and regulated process and the Dublin Regulation also still plays a role.

These people very quickly assimilate and start working and contributing to not only their own economic situation by earning a decent living, but also to the economy.

Also as I have iterated ad nauseam...my comments are not re. the numbers.
 
If I had to do it again out of those options:

- Europe
- USA
- New Zealand

The others are just...not for me.

I also hate the humidity. The seasons I spent in Florida was the worst ever. It get extremely humid here as well, but only for about 2 months of the year, with regular breaks in between too.

That's why I won't even bother visiting places like Thailand etc.

I stick to the Nordic countries...

Yup, exactly. You're not able to claim asylum in the UK; unless you're already there. You cannot do it from another country. So, they are in a catch 22 situation, hence the illegal boat crossings.

Not even close...

Asylum seekers that arrive here, have passports and/or other ID. They do it legally and by the book and then eventually assimilate.

Illegal immigrants throw their ID's and passports overboard while smiling and waving at their buddy's brand new iPhone that's recording.

I was in Finland last week, crushing darkness, freezing cold and inches of ice on the paths. I just don't know how people can live like that.

Well the whole hectic cold snap we experienced down here, came with NE winds from Finland...we had -12C here which is very very rare with heavy snow too.

But living there 365 is not for me...I love visiting in Spring or Autumn.

Just came back from Austria...lovely skiing and snow. Quick long weekend getaway.

Ay, I dunno if that would be the best place if you are looking for something better than SA. The Caribbean is extremely violent. Jamaica has the highest homicide rate in the world, higher than ours.

I once got caught jaywalking in a first world country by their police and was getting lectured, harassed etc so I told the policeman that I'm from Africa and in my village we walk where we need to walk. :ROFL:

Depends which part of the West Indies. A lot of people move there for the tax benefits in some of the islands.

7 of the top-10 countries with the highest homicide rates are in the Caribbean. The Bahamas, one of the prime tax havens, ranks inside the top-10 and the US government recently issued a travel warning after a spate of murders.

Definitely a beautiful place to visit, much like South Africa, but like South Africa, maybe not the best place to go looking for a better life unless you are super wealthy and can insulate yourself from the social issues.

Fair enough, a lot of CA's used to also go to Bermuda back in the day to take advantage of the tax laws.
 
Probably be the US - but only because my brother moved there and it would be terrible to fragment the family even further.

But currently happy in the unrecognised Republic of Western Cape.
