so after some thinking, I finally decided to get uncapped but I have no idea who to get it from.. i am with afrihost at the moment, and i am pretty happy with their service, but is mweb better ? thinking of spending around 500 bucks for it... what are the pros and cons ?

Afrihost uncapped is the worse you can get. Fraction above them are the resold IS accounts that everyone sells for R495. Then slightly above that you get MWEB. And best 4Mb/s under a grand is Opwebweb GOLD at R738.

yeah it is best for R500

Well, I've had this axxess just uncapped 4meg for almost a year now. It's the most fantastic ever. R496 pm.

Online games (local ping < 20ms permanent, WoW EU about 240ms), youtube and IS Steam/newshost are unshaped (full 450kB/s permanently any time of day), and you can login from two locations simultaniously. Browsing very quick and snappy - even to websites in Cyprus (who'd've guessed?).

That being said, don't bother trying to dl from rapidshare/megaupload. It's painful. Torrents are average, but you might as well buy a leechpack account for these anyway. Dl from their servers 150kB/s in the day, full at night.

Only thing that I don't like about it is RDP is quite slow during the day.

So for me; steam, youtube and leechpack are my heaviest bandwidth tasks, and those work great. I'd never consider anything else in this price range.

+1

Very factual and imo accurate.

Just curious as to why in every post about Openweb, you type GOLD and not Gold... Emphasis or what?

Maybe I have been spending too much time at a pc, but all caps feels like YOU ARE SHOUTING :p

Anyway, 4Mbps deals for R500 - best would be mweb, then all the other IS resellers...

ok, so mweb is pretty much on the top of the list.. i am just curious if i can still download from the news servers.. and from which server will it be ? saix or is ? still not too sure about that

Good Afternoon thedutchman

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any assistance finding the ideal MWEB product for you ;).

Kind regards, MWEB Guy

Stay away from MWEB, the links below should be more than ample evidence to show that they are not an ISP that you want to engage with:

When you have 160000 clients it is normal for there to be a few complaints.

I am on mweb uncapped 4mb and loving it. Cancelled my red africa account to go back to mweb.

I accept that reliability is not a concern for all, however if you take the ratio of complaints MWEB wins hands down.

Good luck.

can vouch for that! Mweb more broken than not! just when you think you're close to 4meg speeds, it drops and you get max 10/20kbs... if you're lucky! share sites were to some point blocked.... whichever, they didn't work anymore... Torrents, just to download the torrent file from any website, the download would max out at 0.2kbs..... Then there were all these issues and youtube would buffer really badly! What a painful experience! Its simply inhumane to suffer through bandwidth like that!

Erm ok. That is not my experience at all. During the day torrents etc run terribly but weekends and early morning I get full speed.

yup it was for me, right into the wee hours of the morning! most nights just could not stream 1 youtube feed let alone 3 which I can with openweb!... If I start my torrents... they would get to about 80k... but then you can't browse! stop that then you can browse... the endless runaround trying to find the problem.... Turns out my line is crystal clear, absolutely nothing wrong with it! Changed ISP and it works :)
