I have been told that Allergex is not for long term used (over a certain dosage), I was suggested Allerway and it works better after Allergex indeed seems to have lost its effectiveness. My symptoms toward allergies include inflammation of the dry sinuses (there is not even any blockage whatsoever) and in severe episodes feelings of (but not actual) vomiting and infirmity (for a lack of a better word, its a type of debilitating fatigue).

I saw a doctor 2 or so month ago, got a 5 day course of 6 cortisone tablets in one shot per day (!) + some droplets for the nose also containing cortisone for a one month period. Worked wonderful, but now it is all coming back.

Tecsa. Though your body does adjust and it gets less and les effective.

I use allergex if I'm desperate but it sedates me badly.

I also do the whole steaming thing to loosen everything up in there. Helps with the headaches and the gag reflex triggering thing.

Avermys spray works well too.

You are right though, cortisone is heaven for allergies.

Texamer

EDIT: I've got Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for those really bad days but it still puts me out for the count even after all these years.

Saline flush with a nasal irrigator often does wonders.

Although I do wash/clean my sinuses from time to time with prepared sea water sprays you can buy at deschem. I don't do the netipot. Otherwise it is Allergex.

Allerway is a better option than allergex for chronic use. Perhaps stop the antihistamines as they drying the sinus too much or use it on alternate days.

What you want to use is an inhaled corticosteroids spray like avermys or flomist. Make sure you use proper techniques when using the metered sprays. Chin to chest alternating nostrils per spray. Head back is for drops.

Then occasionally use a sinus rinse like salex now and then (without the surfactant) to moisturize the nasal passages.

If you on the go and nose is dry use nozoil.

The vomiting sensation is concerning that seems to be an ear issue. You could be making the fluid in the ear too thick. Are you getting severe headaches by any chance?

Thank you for all the advice. No headaches, but sinus pain from hell (as said, sinuses dry and not blocked at all). Is there a link between allergies and the ear fluid ? The vomiting sensation goes away alongside the sinus pain receding...

For me that starts with typical pollution like smoke, but is also food related. Some wheat heavy beers, wasabis even spices like paprika. This isn't all the time and every time but more of a combination of things and aggravation. Finally, mild vertigo can also be caused by deficiencies (iron, vitamin b).

How stressed are you at the moment?
Ear infections?
"Confused" ear fluids?

I'm not saying you have all of the above but it is something to keep in mind and have it confirmed/checked out.

Cortisone is schedule 5. My eczema cream also contains it. I would be way more scared of it than any random anti histamine.

I was told by the doc to switch it up so you don't get used to one kind. Been through the brands, Allergex, Allerway, Claratine. Currently on Rupanase

This is the only thing that works for me but you have to keep a routine and do it at least a few times a week during change of season. I went for allergy testing and didn't find anything so I believe I mostly have inflammation issues and this helps with that.

Acid reflux can get into your sinuses while you sleep and make you think you have allergies.

Nausea could be caused by constantly swallowing air because you have post nasal drip or inflamed tissue triggering the swallowing reflex. Just something else to consider.

With allergies, zinc supplements can help.

That one is the most awkward thing I've ever tried using. The Medic+ saline sinus rinse kit available from Dischem has a nicely angled tip that makes using it a lot more comfortable. Pretty close to a neti pot.

The vomiting sensation indicates vestibular disturbances usually. That can occur with thickening of the fluids in the ear which can occur with chronic antihistaminc usage. Drs will then prescribe Serc or stugeron without identifying the problem.

So next time you get a cracking "sinus pain" try and what is called an epley maneuver (google it and no you cant do it on your own). What will happen is the headache will get way worse for a brief period of time, then you will see they wont come as frequent. So you continue doing this movement as it aids in mixing the fluid in the ear. You need to stay extra hydrated when you using antihistamines as they dry out the body and its mucous secretions so look at having around 10 glasses of water a day approximately. If that doesnt work then you may have a full sinus somewhere thats not draining properly thats deep and it wont be apparent (full CT sinus will catch it - dont do normal sinus xray they are useless (only do if ENT orders)). Any post nasal drips ?

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE CHRONIC ORAL CORTICOSTEROIDS - short bursts only. If you still struggling with this go to an ENT and if you still get no joy PM me and I'll give you off label treatments which are kept for extreme cases (though any ENT worth their salt will be aware of these treatments)

Finally are you allergic to aspirin and perhaps asthmatic ?

Fexo120 works like a bomb

Adults use 180mg

As you can see everyone has their prefered antihistamines. There is no wonder drug. You have to keep trying different ones to find the one that works best for you. Whether its ceterizine, fexofenadine, levoceterizine ect ect ect.
