In the more modern days we had Comodo's Intrusion Detection and Security software as well. It was completely free.

That's like running Central Point's Bootsafe.exe in the autoexec.bat and thinking you had protection from all threats. Prep really protects you against HIV and it offers some protection against Hepatitis B.

Windows Defender has improved by leaps and bounds in the last few years... makes it hard to actually justify others and i don't want things controlling my browser. My daily is a Mac anyway, but for Windows machines i have Defender is awesome.

Only Windows Defender. Never had any issues. I tried others in the past but all slow down there PC, so in fact those act more like a virus than a defence.

Just be aware, if you guys are using Windows 10, after the final October update Microsoft will no longer be updating it.
