Which Blackberry to get ???

I've decided on getting a blackberry [never had one before], but I'm not sure with which one to go?

Is the BlackBerry Bold 9700 any good? is there a better one? what is your opinion?

The 9700 is the best one. Only two other options here: 8520 (if you have a limited budget) and Storm 2 which has too many faults (hardware issues) to consider. You'll be getting the best RIM has to offer with the 9700. All other Blackberry's are too outdated to consider now.
 
Definitely 9700, unless you're on a small budget (8520).
 
I had a friend's 8520 for the weekend and now I am seriously itching for a Blackberry. Damn it was nice having the web with me everywhere I go.
What will the 9700 offer me more than the 8520. Just in short?
Price difference is pretty big.

I will mainly use it for Live Updates and following on Twitter and Facebook. And obviously, lots of e-mails.
And it will also replace my current Nokia 3310. Just kidding :D But I have a really ****ty phone at the moment.
 
If you can afford it go for the 9700 - twice the screen resolution + GPS + slightly better camera + 3G. If you don't need any of that stuff (and all you're doing is browsing then the 8520 might actually be better).
 
Will the browsing be a lot faster on the 9700?
I found the browsing to be frustrating at times with the 8520. I understand I cannot expect PC speeds but sometimes it really was terrible, waiting minutes for a page to finish loading.
 
It might be a bit faster, but many people have said that they couldn't really notice much difference between 3g and edge. It will also depend on the network; there have been complaints about how much slower vodacom is than mtn, with regards to their internet speeds. I, personally, haven't bothered trying to compare the two, because I know I'll just be setting myself up for disappointment :P
 
Ok, so i've bought the blackberry bold 9700 :) so far.... VERY VERY impressed with this phone!!! just waiting for BIS to still get activated.

how do you see when BIS has been activated?
 
3G or EDGE will appear next to the signal bars and also a little 4 spot blackberry icon. You should also get a message saying that your handheld has been registered with the wireless network.

It's an awesome phone Ive had mine for a few days now. :)
 
Glad to hear that Bizkit! :) I went to check out one of the dummy 9700 phones at the Vodashop tonight. Feels very nice and surprised at how small it is. 7 more days till potentially new pricing from vodacom and i might just get one.
