So after some concideration and weighing up the options, I have decided to take the plunge and go for a Blackberry come Feb.

The only question is which one?
Is the latest the greatest? Is the Torch better than the bold?

Any help would be great!

I love the torch, the actual keypad sucks. but the touch screen is good enough.
Issues with it revolve around build quality. And touch screens are generally quite fragile.

other than that, I love it.

G/f lost her bold and now got the 9300, its average at best. Does the job, but after the torch i dont think i could use one.

Im used to the Samsung wave and have no issues with the touchscreen there.
I am not that keen on the Torch but it seems to be the better of the lot at the moment.

What are the TS functions like?

touch screen is pretty good. I had an iphone for a few months, very similar.
No problems with the screen functions or TS keypad whatsoever. It is very responsive and about as good as any touch screen i have used

I do have some browser issues with sites with a fair amount of images, it seems to slow down to a crawl.
Have yet to try another browser though.

Internet speeds are pretty good though, D/L around 110k/s which is decent. App store sucks big time. If you are into your Apps, avoid blackberry

9700(Bold II) 9800(Torch) or wait a few months and get the 9780

I used to be an app fan until i discovered that Samsung App store was downloading apps at 2/meg even when i am connected through my internet!

The biggest reason for the bb is for connectivity with friends and family and most of them have bb's already.

that was mine too, dropped my phone bill by over R300 a month.
I would say torch 100% except for build quality, some ppl get decent ones, others dont.
Lucky packet.

Otherwise get what your contract allows you? If it gets u the torch, i dont think u will be disappointed

Yep. Oc looked at my account and he suggests that bb will bring down my cost dramatically.
So the torch it probably is.

I have a Torch and I love it. I am not a fan of Touchscreens - in general they just make me mad, but on the Torch it's real nice and easy to use, it isn't irritating and I always have the option to use the trackpad instead. The hardware keyboard on the Torch is not as nice as on the Bold, being flatter than the Bold's buttons, but this is because the keyboard can slide away.

My R60pm BIS is really all I need these days. I can contact most of my friends and family via the internet some way or another at any given time, so I rarely have to send sms's. Otherwise there's BBM which is great.

If you do get a Torch though, I strongly recommend you get a pouch of some sort for it immediately. The lock/unlock button on the top edge tends to bump into things or unlock the phone while in your pocket if you don't have a pouch or sleeve.

Stop saying my phone is k@k! You just remember meneer....it is thanks to the Blackberry Curve model that RIM and Blackberry is where they are today!

/strokes my Berry.... "Dont listen to these people my precious.....they know not what they say!!!!!!

With the BB being so cheap I am really thinking about getting one, most of my friends and family are using them now. Could use it just as a "Networking" device. But what will become of my beautiful Android phone?

hahahahahha, agreed, the curve has done a killer job. But, as I said, after using the torch I dont think I could go back.
I dont like using the middle trackpad thing to navigate.
