Which BlackBerry?

I got the Bold 9700 on friday, wasn't keen on the sliding kb and touch screen on the torch and of course all the complaints.
I was waiting for the 9780 but I gave in, already been waiting 2 months and have heard nothing from the sp.

Go the torch - best phone I have ever had - by a long margin. It is however my first BB, so no comparison. I do however have a friend with a 9700 who loves his phone, but said he would swop it for the Torch anyday.

Well, am currently have a SGS and I think the touch screen is a bit over-rated (Don't get me wrong it is a really nice phone). But for a BB I will almost always pick a keypad only phone. I have a bold one and it actually suits all my needs, I just followed the android route to play a little as I also want to develop some of my own software (didn't get to that part yet). You basically have to ask yourself a few questions - what is your primary means of communication? Mine is email and google chat, for that the bold series are probably the best. If you are a light user and you want to browse the internet on a bigger screen get the get the torch. I played with it a few days ago and it is really a nice phone, don't know why it received so many bad reviews.

Well read some reviews and the some more reviews.
What is rather odd is that people are comparing the torch to an android or iphone when reviewing.
What the fukk for?

Very different systems marketed for very different markets.

I use my phone for internet, mail and communication.
So the berry will be great, the torch actually perfect.

I am spoiled with the Amoled screen and the 1ghz processor..yet i am looking forward to my berry experience.

My gorgeous wife needed a new phone for business(she started a new job), so I upgraded 1 of my contracts and got her the torch.. 3 weeks later I had to get one also..

Not sure what the build quality issues are, ours are perfect..

Good choice - had mine since October and still can't stop playing!

Torch 2?

I'm also due from upgrade from FEB.
When is the Torch 2 due to arrive?
Is it worth the wait?

Problem is that when u wait too long to upgrade u lose time for the next upgrade.

I'm still waiting for the release of the 9780.
I'm even moving my contract to month-to-month till it get released

Torch 2 is still a rumour at this stage.
I am sure it is coming out but it is going to take a loooooooooooooooooooong time.

the 9780 is awesome. it is my first blackberry & i have it for about a month now. cant find any faults with it. if only i could find a dock/charging pod for the 9780.

Someone told me that software was released today in Sweden that allows free BB to BB calling. Don't know how true it is but the guy that told me is trust worthy.

Had the Torch now for a few months and I'm quite keen to move to the 9780. Having had an iPhone 4 I feel the Torch doesn't come close as far as touchscreens go. I barely ever use the touchscreen functionality and generally use the keypad. I find the Torch is a good phone, but very heavy and clunky. I'm missing the solid feel of the Bold 9000.

yep. can't beat the form factor of the Bold.

I find the keypad awful, and use only the touch screen. Different strokes I guess

Your first problem is comparing a blackberry to any other phone.

I agree that there is a significant difference in quality regarding the visuals, speed and touch screen capability of the torch vs iphone, android and even bada units.
I also feel that bb has lost a significant opportunity with the torch and it's touchscreen capability to attract a younger market.

The Samsung wave was my last phone and the 1ghz speed and Super Amoled screen spoiled me terribly.
I was apprehensive regarding the Torch from reading some of the reviews and the first day of getting it...let's just say that i had slight tinge of "What have i done?"

However on day 2 it actually became a moot point when it became clear that the blackberry is not the same as any other phone i have ever had.
The blackberry is a perfect communication tool for today with instant access to a number of methods of communication that slots in perfectly in a world where instant communication has become a need instead of a want and all of it for FREE.

I like the way it feels in my hand, weighty and there.
I like the fact that it does not look like any other phone.
The touchscreen is a great feature that allows bb n00bs like myself feel comfortable with the nuances of a bb.
The keypad on the torch is great, i was rather fascinated when i noticed on day 5 and 6 that i actually preferred the keyboard itself as opposed to the touchscreen and was tapping away with sattisfying little clicks like a bb vet.

There are some things that i miss, my privacy being one. BBM's, emails and text messages all pushed through immediate (god bless the email filters). :D
I have become a BB convert.

This is what's so difficult to explain to people. It's the way the whole solution works.
