Had the Torch now for a few months and I'm quite keen to move to the 9780. Having had an iPhone 4 I feel the Torch doesn't come close as far as touchscreens go. I barely ever use the touchscreen functionality and generally use the keypad. I find the Torch is a good phone, but very heavy and clunky. I'm missing the solid feel of the Bold 9000.
Your first problem is comparing a blackberry to any other phone.
I agree that there is a significant difference in quality regarding the visuals, speed and touch screen capability of the torch vs iphone, android and even bada units.
I also feel that bb has lost a significant opportunity with the torch and it's touchscreen capability to attract a younger market.
The Samsung wave was my last phone and the 1ghz speed and Super Amoled screen spoiled me terribly.
I was apprehensive regarding the Torch from reading some of the reviews and the first day of getting it...let's just say that i had slight tinge of "What have i done?"
However on day 2 it actually became a moot point when it became clear that the blackberry is not the same as any other phone i have ever had.
The blackberry is a perfect communication tool for today with instant access to a number of methods of communication that slots in perfectly in a world where instant communication has become a need instead of a want and all of it for FREE.
I like the way it feels in my hand, weighty and there.
I like the fact that it does not look like any other phone.
The touchscreen is a great feature that allows bb n00bs like myself feel comfortable with the nuances of a bb.
The keypad on the torch is great, i was rather fascinated when i noticed on day 5 and 6 that i actually preferred the keyboard itself as opposed to the touchscreen and was tapping away with sattisfying little clicks like a bb vet.
There are some things that i miss, my privacy being one. BBM's, emails and text messages all pushed through immediate (god bless the email filters).

I have become a BB convert.
