Which Cape Town Suburbs Have Good Internet?

I'm having to move at relatively short notice and would like to move into an area with decently fast connections and no congestion issues. Which suburbs have the best connections? Any info much appreciated.

What general area of CPT are you looking at? Northern / Southern / Seaboard?

I was initially considering mainly Northern suburbs and West Coast, since afaik they have better connections than Southern Suburbs, but seems like I'm going to be limited to West Coast only.

So my choices are Blouberg, Table View, Parklands, Sunningdale, Flamingo Vlei, West Beach, etc.

What I'd really like to know is what exchanges there are in theses areas, what speeds they're capable of, and where they are. Even a general idea would help. I tried the local Telkom office, but they don't seem to know much/want to say much.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find a perfect 10 meg connection where I am staying in Claremont.

Southern suburbs is a gamble, a lot of old lines still around - however I do get 10mb in Kenilworth

Northern Suburbs is also a gamble. Internet in Sonstraal/Durbanville is good (VDSL). 2km away in Vredekloof, there are "not enough ports"

southern suburbs is a lie...telkom may claim what ever speed...i have a bonded 3 x 10meg...and its rare that i get full bandwidth...the copper is poor in the lines...of course staying in the CBD you get decent speeds cause they always laying fibre...

i live close to cbd, not always!!! same issue bad copper to the older residential areas .... northern subs have the all the new

I'm also in Vredekloof. My adsl runs without issues, but 3G from Vodacom? Nothing! If you look at the 3g coverage map every area around me has 3g!

Well it just so happens that the nice low crime areas have the best internet speeds. Ain't that some schit?!

This isn't bad - tyvm.

It at least gives the handful of blocks that are VDSL enabled. Hopefully I get lucky and find a place in one of the green zones.

Unfortunately though it doesn't differentiate between 4 meg and 10 meg. I had the same result on http://www.telkom.co.za/checkadsl/checkADSL.htm It reports only either 4 meg or 40 meg.
