Travelling in Europe is very cheap. So if for example you're flying from SA to France, you can catch flights/trains from France to Germany or Italy etc for around R200. It would be very wasteful to go all the way from SA to Europe and only visit one country.

Same applies for Asia.

Dont know about the others but I was lucky enough to land a job with a German firm that had a. factories all over the world and b. believed that part of skills development it was a good idea to move people around from time to time..

Also once you stay in either Asia or Europe traveling becomes dam easy and cheap. As mentioned before, SA has the problem of being remote so flying is expensive.

Examples flying from Auckland to Sydney or even Hong Kong is cheaper than Flying from Auckland to say Christchurch and they even have specials where you could pick up a ticket for say $50 during off peak times.

Another example, flying from France to Italy was cheap enough to go on holiday, esp if you knew people that you could stay with. Think of it as like flying from JHB to CPT for the holidays to stay in some friends beach house :)

Wow, some of you guys! This thread motivates me to at least go apply for a passport :D

Do it! It should only take you 8 days.

Here's my depressing list. It was over 10 years ago since I was out of the country. :/

Holland
Denmark (tons of trips by car)
Austria x2 (summer & winter snowboarding)
Italy
Sweden
Only been on Zurich airport in Switzerland, would love to spend more time in the country.

Been to about 21 countries thus far. Not gonna bore you with the details, suffice to say that travel is in my blood !

Of all the countries that I have been to, India is the most amazing, magical, wonderful place I have ever visited and I try to go back there on an annual basis now :)

This thread disproves the long held belief that South Africans are knowledgable about the world.

A lot of people don't know the difference between a country and a region/province, even though they have been there :)
