This thread disproves the long held belief that South Africans are knowledgable about the world.

A lot of people don't know the difference between a country and a region/province, even though they have been there :)

The real test would be to see if they can point them out on maps. I have seen sooo many videos on how the people in the US fail in that regard.

The US citizens are very insular people, generally speaking. Don't travel too much outside their own borders.

On another note, why the heck would someone indicate SA on a list of countries they have traveled to when in fact they LIVE in SA?????? That's inane !!!!

If you were not born in South Africa, you would travel to it.

If you now live in South Africa you would travel to the country of your birth, counting both as being visited.

Also if you look at the stats for MyBroadband you will find a surprising number of non South African residents accessing the site.

If you read some of the previous posts you will see some forumites saying that they traveled to SA and then they put the word 'live' in brackets next to it. Silly to live in a country and then list it as having traveled there !!! Travel implies leaving your country of domicile and traveling elsewhere!

Much ado about nothing. The thread is "which countries have you been to", if you live in South Africa, you've been to South Africa. No need to make a fuss.

kthxbi.

Read the OP he listed South Africa (Live here) starting a pattern.

My son was born in South Africa and travelled to England a few times before moving there to live. Since he has been there he has travelled to South Africa on several occasions.

Therefore he has travelled to both countries and lived in them.
A number of posters have also lived in multiple countries.

Same here. I wasn't born in SA but I live here.

Also, let's assume that you were born and live in Mexico and are a member of this forum. Would you not list "Mexico" as a country that you've been to? THAT would be inane.

I've listed them so many times before.. sigh.

I've been to 18 countries in 4 continents, that's one country for every year of my age.. not too bad.
