Which Coupe to buy...

Like some others have said, you should be looking at the A5 to compare against the 335i... 2008 A5 3.2 FSI with 85000k's, R350k. You can get a newer, much lower mileage 2.0 TFSI for the same price.

Check the Audi website. Pre-Owned section.
 
Before taking up a nice looking offer with a bit of mileage on, first make sure that you can extend the warranty. Merc/BMW/Audi have changed their insurance companies so the cars that are 3-7 years old cannot have their motor plan extended. We found this out with our Merc sitting on 119'000km.

I realise you want something with a heck of a lot of punch, but before looking at a 135/S3 or a 335/S5, take note of the following, and it goes for more than just these cars... these cars, unless owned by an old lady, will have been pushed pretty hard.... they're sportcars, after all. With that said, since they've got turbos, you don't want to, under any circumstances, own one without a maintenance plan. Turbos are ridiculously expensive.

Personally I'd rather go for a second hand, but pretty new, 2.0Tfsi,125/130 or 325/330 or whatever the budget allows. It's still anything but slow, and will be cheaper on the long run, without having to settle for a Kia or a Mazda.

I see there are diff kw versions of the S3, the one above is the 210.

Id get the 135/335 rather than the S3 but then again Im a BMW fanboi :)

Wrong s3 in that first link , thats the old 2001 1.8t s3
 
Some good points about spending 350K on a 4 year old high performance car.If you're buying it cash then it shouldn't be too bad but on terms you'll end up paying 420K for that car and it will be worth squat when you sell it.
 
BMW told me they could extend the warranty by 3 years max but without an increase in kilometers.

I'm starting to think twice about these cars now...maybe I should just wait till I can afford to buy new.

I second that, what a beauty.
Personal question, are you going to be paying interest ? If yes then rather pick something cheaper, pay less (or no) interest and can always trade-in/upgrade at a later stage.
What about a GTi ?

I found this 335i coupe for sale which suits my budget and appears to be in good condition with low mileage for a 5 year old car:

What do you guys think? What are the things that I need to look out for when checking the car out. I'm in CPT, so I'll send one of my buddies in Jozie to go checkout the car initially. Also, how much does it cost to extend the motorplan? Not sure how that works but I don't really want to have any nasty surprises after I buy the car (I've heard the HPFP is an issue on this car). Rather be safe than sorry.

If I do decide to buy the car, I'll probably take a flight up and then sleep over @ my friends' place and drive around town for a bit. I want to make sure the car is OK before I bring it back to CPT.

So you have 1 year left on the maintenance plan.... and it's got a twin turbo, right? Afaik you can't extend the motorplan on that one... that's the problem I had - BMW/Merc/Audi changed their underwriters (??) and a certain date-range of cars can't have it extended. You don't want a BMW turbo on a car that doesn't have a maintenance plan. Except if you can afford it, that is :)
