Which Distro to choose

No feedback from the OP...
Perhaps Microsoft kidnapped him!!

perhaps he got overwhelmed with the 1000 distros + 2000 component variants and options required to install via terminal to make any one of the 1000 available distro's work together with all the 2000 optional variations effectively.

that sound to complex? Typical Linux?

You need 32-bit lib support to get picasa going on 64-bit, got it going on Arch here.

The RAW, I have no idea, let me check tonight and I'll let you know.

EDIT:
It handles my Canon RAW images, I just now checked.

What exactly is the problem? Using ftp is not rocket science science your browser or download manager should be able to handle it without hassles.

No. man You just have to learn the FTP folder structures. Tel us what Distro you want and I/someone will guide you to the correct download.

I started off with Gentoo and I do not look back. It took me at least 20+ installs to understand the basics, but it was worth it :)

You can also install your linux distro inside a VM. Have a look @ VirtualBox. Then you will not be able to break your MBR or partition table and you can google whilst working in linux. The performance impact is not that big either.

Update
