I currently own an iPhone 8 Plus but would like to get an Android flagship to have the best of both worlds.

So I have the following options:
- Samsung S9/Plus
- Huawei Mate 10 Pro
- Huawei P20 Pro
- Nokia 8
- Samsung Note 8
- LG V30

Is there anything else I'm missing?
What would you recommend?

S9+ or P20 Pro are the only options. Between those it's purely personal preference, so check them out in person at a store. You might find the Samsung curves and display override other considerations, or maybe the P20 camera or front fingerprint reader speaks to you.

Considering my iPhone 7 absolutely kills my Galaxy S8+ for battery life can I presume that's a joke?

Nope. Just means you're using old hardware on both counts. Oreo limits background activity for apps.

I could say the same for my step-dad's iPhone anyway. He tears his hair out over his iPhone 7's battery life and routinely tells me how he can't wait to upgrade and never touch Apple again (he mostly hates the user interface though).

The S8+ is old hardware? Are you on some form of medication? If the S8+ is old hardware virtually 90% of Android phones must be antiques...

Just FYI, it's 2018 now, just in case you didn't know.

The S8+ has had Oreo since March of this year....

Devices not shipping with Oreo don't get the real deal, but it will at least have battery limitations. Don't really follow Samsung news as I can't stand bloated devices. Maybe use the battery functionality and your S8+ won't have poor battery life.

And yes, Android is a massively fragmented platform. It is by far its biggest weakness, but it sort of gets a pass because it's such an open platform and probably wouldn't be as popular if it wasn't.

You've just proved there that you're a bit of a kook, I switched off straight after that first sentence as anything that followed is going to be ignorant rubbish from an obviously clueless user.

As I asked, are you on any form of meds? Just curious...

Either get a P20 Pro OR the S9+

If I were you I would go in store and try both of them, they are two different worlds of Android, but personally I enjoy both of them, each has its own quirks and awesome features.

The P20 Pro has what has to be the very best Camera on a Phone right now, while the S9+ has the best display, from there onwards it's really up to what matters to you, with my experience of the Mate10 Pro, Huawei seem to get great battery life, it was certainly better in this area than my Galaxy Note8.

With regards to Galaxy Note8, it's a great device but the Note9 is close, hence why I suggest getting the S9+, unless you can wait until Note9.

Have a look at their recommendations, I've found them to be the most balanced reviewers. In summary, they recommend the P9+, although personally I've never been a fan of the larger phones. If it was me buying, I'd get the HTC U11 or Pixel 2, but neither of them are readily available in SA.
