Which flagship to get?

Bit embarrassing for yourself to go and say all that when Samsung has been forthcoming about all Oreo features only being present on devices that ship with it on.
 
P20 Pro or S9+ as others have stated.

Both offer free repairs on screens, good support locally. Camera's are pretty much the same except for 1 or 2 differences, both excellent.

Main difference would be interface, each have their own pros + cons.

Personally i would go P20 Pro, its new, fresh, exciting, twilight is an awesome colour. Its also slightly smaller and lighter, easier to handle.
Samsung is a refined product, so excellent in its own right, but kind of boring.
 
I have heard that the P20 range still has issues with the GPS.. like most other huawei's.. correct me if im wrong, but every person i know who has a huawei tells me the GPS is screwed and keeps losing... other than that, the P20 pro is a beast fo a phone..

Personally tho, if i could afford it, i would go S9/S9+

get last years flagship. Why?

Cheaper price (cos the new one is out)
Refined software (bugfixes deployed)
Less "in fashion" gimmicks
Still receives software updates.

I would go for the Mate 10 Pro (when the new mate comes out) or the S8+

Older ones sure. Not having issues on mine at the moment
 
Not available locally, but i would get a pixel 2.

If you have an iPhone and are used to quick updates etc, then Pixel is the way.

Throw out the Nokia 8 and instead consider the Nokia 8 Sirocco

Probably doesn't "have" to be but I dont want to waste my time on midrangers as they dont really get updates and the SoC isnt always too great and may be a laggy experience.

To be honest I haven't used an Android in 3 years so I dont know what to expect.

I want something close to iPhone performance and fluidity.

Ya the support is very important especially when buying an expensive phone.

I am also leaning towards the P20 Pro. I want to go with Telkom to get the dual sim variant.

Only thing I dont like that much is the bottom bezel as it doesnt look symmetrical.

The other option is the Mate 10. It has the same processor and specs more or less as the P20. Also same price more or less. But then again its an older phone.

Ya Im not to fond of the curved display. The screen protectors suck and you get ghost touches with your palm etc.

I would highly recommend the Mate10 Pro, I had one on review and it was a beast of a thing; the battery lasted for what seemed like forever, the UI is incredibly fast and fluid, the phone is very well built and very compact in the hand considering its screen size.

The Mate10 Pro is probably one of the most underrated phones I have come across much like the HTC 10 and LG V30. It was overshadowed by the iPhone X and Galaxy Note8.

EMUI does take some getting used to as Huawei pack these phones with tons of features, but the phone never gets bogged down, as it seems like the AI chip does takeaway a lot of the heavy loading from the main CPU and GPU. Also Huawei SuperCharging is INSANELY quick, considering the 4000mAh battery in there, go have a look at some charging speed tests, the Huaweis blow everything out the water in that area.

Great phone all round, my only complaint was lack of 3.5mm jack.
