Last resort is to ask someone not working in a shop. So I pose this to you - which fridge / freezer combo should I get, and which should I completely avoid?

The basics - my partner is now my ex, the one thing I will miss is her fridge / freezer combo. Hers is a Defy, hence the reason I want to avoid the brand. Noisy, it's an A rating, and it has been repaired once (albeit in the 3 years of its life)

I had a red Hisense before, I paid a prima escalated price for it being the colour it was, I am sure the better models are, well... better. Again, another ex being a part of my fridge problem, the colour being the primary motivation :-)

I have a Samsung top / bottom right now, I am well please with it hence favouring the 535L, or the 501L or the 647L, ranging from R15k to R18k. However looking at the reviews on these they seem very very bad indeed. Then again, I know that people who are unhappy will share their unhappiness, and people being happy seems to be "selfish" of sharing. So of course we will see more complaints. However, from personal experience the reviews on Takealot will all be positive, because they "pick" the reviews, negative ones specifically are filtered.

I am in Cape Town area, so I should not have support issues.

I drink my brandy and whiskey neat with no Coke, so the ice-makers / crushers are not important to me. So I'd prefer the space rather than the equipment.

So I am pushing towards Samsung, maybe the Hisense if it has a proper energy star rating. Thoughts, please, much appreciated.

Not bad. I see the one person rating the freezer as an F, the fridge is an A++ though. Any idea how that works?

Just get a Bosch and be done.
Whatever you do don't buy KIC or Defy kak.

I would never buy a combo again, as often one part works great while the other has problems, and they use one compressor unit. Get two separate units, each with his own compressor.

Agreed, bought a separate Bosch upright freezer & fridge a few years ago and they're solid. Also AA energy rating so they use very little electricity. If one breaks down at least you're not sitting with nothing.

I managed to find a Samsung 535LT for R14k, R14k extra for another 3-year extended warrantee.

That's 20% off from the normal price. What I like is that the fridge is a solid metal look, whereas the others all seem to be come in plastic coated tin sheet. Very many likes.

I think I may go swipe tomorrow morning.
She's also now left with the 65" TV, so now the next replacement... Sigh... Thinking of a projector rather, I have a Windows 10 streamer, and also an Apple TV. But thank sack it's not critical now.

Those extended warranteed are a scam, don't fall for it. Price on the fridge seems decent.
