Ok guys im gonna ask wat my b a dumb question but is it not beta to get a ATI 1950 Pro (which is faster than and has a better ring bus than the 8600gt) than getting a 8600 GT (DX10) ?

Im looking to upgrade my bros machine and hes looking for a cheapish card that can still run games at a decent pace...Not reli worried bout Dx10 at this stage cos Dx9 will still be supported for im guessing at least another 1yr or 2yr...n more than likely iv have upgraded from my Dx10 card (that im still waitn for the nxt generation cards to come out before i buy ;) )

So im just basically looking for a good bang for buck card for now..

k thanks guys

ok thanks guys 2nd question is dis card beta than my 7900GT that im running cos den i mite just swap him mine until i buy da nxt gen Dx10 nvidia (8900 or 9800 wateva comes out 1st lol ;) ) or ati ?

well get that card because most dx 10 games will be playable on windows xp with a dx 9 card

pc game makers are not stupid enough to exclude the ppl who cant afford a good dx 10 card

hahaha ok sorry what i meant was, is the Ati 1950 Pro better than my current Nvidia 7900GT ? Because if it is then I'll buy the Ati for myself and give my brother my 7900gt just until Nvidia or Ati release the new Dx10 cards again..

Wow, now why not always type properly. :D

I think the answer is no...

hmmmm nothing more than about R1900......the Ati 1950 is R1818 from Prophecy which seems like a good price for it

Right now I wouldn't go ATI myself, not because I am a nVidia fanboy, but rather because, bang for buck, you are gonna get more out of an nVidia card right now.

I, personally, would suggest the XFX Ge-Force 8600GT Fatal1ty Edition. My friend just bought himself one and it is beastly.

You can buy it from Take2 for R1745

eitai just because its 50mhz faster does not its a better card man

there are tons of different things about different card, its not just clock speed

check out gpureview.com and compare the card

my advice though save up another 1100 and get an 8800gts

Yep 8800gts 320MB is worth pushing for. It's pricey if you're on a budget but for some odd reason Nvidia crippled their lower cards more than usual so you don't gain much over the previous generation.

Yeah, I am taking the same route. I was gonna go for a R2500 gfx card, but then I decided that I would rather save up some more and get the 8800GTS 320mb. As far as I am concerned the difference in price is far less than the difference in quality.

DX issues aside.
The ATI 1950pro is much faster than the GF 8600GT (about 30% on Doom 3), but slower than the 7900GT. The 7900GT also outperforms the 8600GTS. The GF 8600 GTS is on par with GF 7900GS.

This does change between games, and OSs to a degree if you're running Vista.

Basically, keep your 7900GT, tell your friend to get a 1950 unless he can afford a 8800GTS (definitely worth it), then try to swap your 7900 for the 8800GTS.
