Hey guys

In need of a graphics card. Have a max of 3.5k to spend. Open to any brand/manufacture.

I see wootware has a special: http://www.wootware.co.za/msi-r7950...hics-card.html?SID=volr94sosh2o3b30nobhul9mn0 for 3.5k

What would you suggest? Should I just wait for any new gpu's coming out next year? I can use onboard graphics in the interim.

PC Specs:

i7 2600k @ 4.5gHz
8Gb Corsair Vengeance
128GB SSD

Thanks!

In my opinion I would prefer to go with thw 7950.
It is by far superior than 660ti's and they are overpriced in my honest opinion.
Well nvidia says that's the price point.
7950 is the second best from AMD what to offer 660ti has limitations because of the 192-bit. They supposed to have costed well below R3000.R2500 because of those limitations but hay they are in charge of pricing.
MSI cards stay away. There issues with them about overvolting there cards and internationaly and local peeps are sending it back.
You can google they even admitted it and still says they have no issues.(wow!)
Well that's my two cents but I would go for the 7950 very very Goood price I would go for that any day upon the price huge bargain.

Fair enough , the 7950 has a bigger frame buffer (3gb ram) and a bigger memory bus (384 bit) but thats just what's written on paper , real life performance does nothing to justify the worth of a 7950, with those specs you expect it to murder the 660ti, but instead they both perform on similar levels. As for nvidia admitting they went astray..... well thats just marketing tactics to say to AMD well we chopped of a chunk of our memory bus but we can still keep up with your 7950:D

I have to second the opinion of staying away from MSI cards, My gtx 670 Power edition is in RMA for over 5 weeks until my retailer decided this week to exchange the card for a gigabyte windforce 3 670 which I gladly accepted.

GTX660Ti is generally cheaper, and faster than a HD7950... So what are well doing here again? :p This is a no brainer

The second second edition 7950 has higher clocks the the first release. So keep that in mind when comparing benchmarks.

Actually, while I fully agree that the 660Ti is a better choice of card overall, there's no denying that
the 7950 is the higher performance card.

In my personal opinion though, 60FPS on an Nvidia GPU has aways felt a lot smoother than 60FPS on the AMD/ATI counterpart.

Maybe it's just me, but my last good experience with an ATI card was my X800XT PE, so yes, I'm a little Nvidia biased.

Toms has got to be on of the worst sites to go looking for GPU benchmarks. I've seen so many anomalies in their benchmarks that I've stopped going there altogether.

Also, stock 7950 vs stock 660Ti, the 660Ti is the higher performance card. With averaged data from 3 review sites, I can say that with 100% confidence

Interesting. Could you post show us some links to confirm this?

Update: After looking at another review, I noticed that in many instances the GTX660Ti
is faster than the 7950, however, in just as many instances the 7950 is faster.

The 660Ti is far more energy efficient though, still making it the better choice.

I still disagree with the statement that the 660Ti is the higher performance card though.

+1 GTX 660Ti by far your best bet in that price range. 7950 is old news.

I would advise against the 660ti.

It might be awesome now, but for example the 670 will last longer. Why? because of that memory bandwidth of 192k on the 660TI... Rather go Ati and if you must have nvidia save another month and get a decent 670. Be sure to grab one with proper cooling. The gigabyte really runs cool...

The drivers for the ATI cards are a real schlep in some cases....Nvidia's drivers are extremely stable and rarely have issues.

To note there is currently in some cases an issue with the kelper and vsync. It gives you odd stuttering, but its been worked on and already better in current driver iteration. This variable gpu speed really is stupid imho.

Nvidia drivers are a real schlep in some cases (like when they burn your GPU to a crisp, literally, leaving you with a nice doorstop). AMD's drivers are extremely stable and rarely have issues.

See what I did there?
